Please be aware that this article contains significant spoilers for the first two episodes of Sullivan’s Crossing Season 4! The character Lola Gunderson has faced many challenges, but is now ready to move forward with her life. Initially introduced as a rival to Dr. Maggie Sullivan, Lola (played by Amalia Williamson) caused conflict due to a complex history. As a child, Lola was injured in a hit-and-run, and Sully Sullivan (Scott Patterson) became a father figure to her, creating jealousy for Maggie (Morgan Kohan).
Okay, so as I kept watching Sullivan’s Crossing, it turned out Sully had been secretly helping Lola out because he thought he was the one who’d accidentally hit her with his car. It was a huge weight he was carrying! Lola, poor thing, was totally traumatized by the accident and had no idea what really happened. Then, when Sully finally confessed, it actually unlocked a memory for her, proving he wasn’t even the driver! It was a crazy twist. Thankfully, Lola and Maggie started to really understand each other and actually became friends, which was great to see. And on top of everything, Lola found love with Jacob Cranebear – Joel Oulette plays him – and now they’re doing the long-distance relationship thing.
Lola has experienced a lot of loss in her life. She didn’t know her father and lost her mother when she was young. After that, she was raised by her grandparents, who are now also gone. Recently, things had been improving – she’d started dating Jacob and was enjoying an internship as a counselor at the youth center. Unfortunately, she lost her job after taking the children to the Crossing without getting permission from their parents.
Lola was heartbroken by what happened, but she soon saw it as a positive change, as it allowed her to visit Jacob. While everyone at Sullivan’s Crossing will miss her, it’s the right time for her character to move on and pursue new opportunities.
Lola Should Continue Her Relationship With Jacob
Lola unexpectedly found a silver lining after losing her internship: she was now free to visit Jacob in Calgary, where he was in graduate school. Jacob wished he could finish his research back home in Timberlake to stay with her, but his professors wouldn’t allow it, and he had to leave for Calgary as planned.
Maggie and Lola both agreed that Jacob had initially seemed like a short-term summer romance. However, Lola confessed she hadn’t expected to miss him so much. That’s why she eagerly accepted his invitation to help him gather lichen samples for his research in the Rocky Mountains.
In season 3 of Sullivan’s Crossing, Lola revealed to Maggie and Sydney that she’d never been in a romantic relationship before, emphasizing her naiveté when it comes to love. At first, she was hesitant to date Jacob because she lacked experience and was afraid, but she now appears ready to explore a relationship with him. Hopefully, Sullivan’s Crossing will give Lola the opportunity to move on from her past and fully commit to Jacob.
Lola Has Never Been Outside Of Nova Scotia
Okay, so Lola’s making a big move to Calgary to be with Jacob, and honestly, it felt like more than just romance was driving her decision. She confessed she’s never really left Nova Scotia, and it struck me as a woman desperate for a fresh start, a chance to really live. The film subtly revealed Lola’s been carrying a lot of baggage – a past accident has left her both physically and emotionally wounded, and the fact that she has no memory of the event is truly heartbreaking. It’s like she’s stuck, unable to move forward, and this trip feels like a desperate attempt to break free.
Now that Lola is recovering from her accident, it’s time for her to start exploring new opportunities. She should step outside of her familiar routine and try new things. For a long time, Lola’s world has been limited, but she has a chance to see what else is out there. Maggie and Cal Jones, who came to Timberlake after living in big cities and following their dreams, can show her what’s possible. Lola deserves the chance to decide if the Crossing is truly where she wants to be, after experiencing everything life has to offer, instead of just staying because it’s what she’s always known.
Lola is attending university, but she hasn’t made many friends beyond Maggie and Sydney, and even those friendships are still developing after a history of disagreements. If Lola were to stay in Timberlake, she could continue seeing Jacob, but she’d also have the chance to meet new people and expand her social circle.
While Lola is a vital part of Sullivan’s Crossing, the show would benefit from letting her character grow beyond Timberlake. Staying would keep her stuck, but leaving opens doors for her to pursue a fulfilling life – and doesn’t necessarily mean she’d disappear from the series entirely. A move to Calgary would give Lola the chance to thrive, find love, and take control of her future. It’s time for Sullivan’s Crossing to allow Lola to reach her full potential.
