While everything eventually ends, that doesn’t seem to be the case in television. Studios are increasingly relying on nostalgia to attract viewers, bringing back popular shows with new versions. Networks like ABC and NBC have already successfully revived several hit series, and now Paramount+ is about to do the same with a classic CBS show – and fans have even more to look forward to.
After a two-year break following its fifteenth season in 2020, the popular crime drama Criminal Minds is back with new episodes! Criminal Minds: Evolution—the fourth season since the show’s revival and the nineteenth season overall—returns to Paramount+ on May 28th. New episodes will be released every Thursday. This continuation of the hit CBS series follows the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, but it’s different from the original. Instead of individual cases each week, the new season features longer, more complex investigations that unfold throughout the entire season. Fans have even more to look forward to, as exciting news was recently announced.
Criminal Minds: Evolution Has a Bright Future
Criminal Minds was a huge hit for CBS, and its recent return as Criminal Minds: Evolution has continued that success. In fact, the show was renewed for a 20th season just two months before Season 19 even begins! This makes Criminal Minds one of the longest-running and most popular crime dramas on television. While details about Season 20 are still to come, and Season 19—starring Joe Mantegna, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness, Aisha Tyler, Zach Gilford, RJ Hatanaka, Adam Rodriguez, and Paget Brewster—hasn’t premiered yet, it’s likely the milestone season will air in 2027, continuing the show’s pattern of releasing a new season each year since Season 17.
It’s no surprise that Criminal Minds: Evolution has been renewed for another season. The show is a key part of what Paramount+ offers and has kept a loyal fanbase. As a continuation of the original Criminal Minds, it’s surprisingly good. The new, more connected, and intense format allows for a deeper look into the lives and struggles of the BAU team, making it a show you can easily get hooked on. The original cast still has great chemistry, and the addition of Zach Gilford as Elias Voit/Sicarius has created a truly chilling and personal villain – arguably one of the best the show has ever seen.
Other TV Shows Coming to Paramount+
Paramount+ will finish adding new shows in May with the premiere of Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 19, but there’s still plenty to watch! Starting May 1st, fans can enjoy Battlestar Galactica: The Miniseries, Battlestar Galactica, Caprica, and all five seasons of Friday Night Lights. More shows will be added throughout the month, including Boomerang and Kingdom Business on May 13th, plus the season finales of Watson, NCIS, and Elsbeth.
