Rihanna knows how to work, work, work, work, work, work on the red carpet.
I’ve been a huge fan of Rihanna for almost 20 years, and honestly, she always delivers, especially at the Met Gala. She just shines – it’s like she was born to brighten up that event!
Rihanna has become famous for her stunning Met Gala outfits ever since her debut at the event in 2007, where she wore a white gown by Georges Chakra for the “Poiret: King of Fashion” theme. She’s often one of the last to walk the red carpet each year, and her looks always make a statement.
At the 2015 Met Gala, the 38-year-old truly embraced the “China: Through the Looking Glass” theme with a stunning and dramatic fashion choice: an oversized yellow coat dress created by Chinese designer Guo Pei.
She told Vanity Fair on the red carpet that she absolutely loved the dress, even though the long train made it difficult to walk in. “I need help just to move in it,” she admitted, “but it’s totally worth it!”
Rihanna explained that the designer spent two years creating the piece. She discovered it while browsing online for Chinese couture.
Rihanna, the Grammy-winning artist, made a splash again in 2021, this time with her partner, A$AP Rocky. For the Met Gala’s “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” theme, Rihanna wore a large, black gown by Balenciaga, and A$AP Rocky sported a unique patchwork coat designed by Eli Russell Linnetz.

Rihanna’s 2025 Met Gala look was especially memorable – she revealed she was expecting her third child just hours after announcing the news with her partner, A$AP Rocky, who was also a co-chair of the event. The couple later welcomed their daughter, Rocki, in September, joining big brothers RZA, age 3, and Riot, age 2.
For the night’s “Tailored for You” theme, Rihanna wore a unique wool suit designed by Marc Jacobs. The suit combined a classic men’s-style coat with a flattering bustier and a detailed bustle.
We’re wondering if Rihanna will be at the 2026 Met Gala on May 4th. In the meantime, let’s revisit her most memorable Met Gala outfits from past years.

I was absolutely floored when Rihanna made her first appearance at the Met Gala! She looked incredible in a stunning white gown by Georges Chakra, and the single red rose she carried was the perfect touch. It all fit the night’s theme, celebrating Paul Poiret, so well – she really understood the assignment!

For the 2009 Met Gala, themed “The Model As Muse: Embodying Fashion,” Rihanna wore a Dolce & Gabbana suit with black high-heeled shoes.

For the “Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty” event, she wore a black lace dress by Stella McCartney and styled her hair in a long braid that fell down her shoulder.

Rihanna wore a black, textured dress by Tom Ford to the red carpet event, which celebrated the theme of “Schiaparelli And Prada: Impossible Conversations” in 2012.

For the 2014 Met Gala, themed “Charles James: Beyond Fashion,” she wore a white Stella McCartney two-piece outfit. In an April 2024 Instagram video with British Vogue, she revealed this remains one of her all-time favorite Met Gala looks, alongside her 2015 gown.

Oh my god, do you remember Rihanna at the Met Gala? It was EVERYTHING. The theme was China, and she absolutely nailed it. She wore this incredible yellow gown – a coat dress, actually – by this amazing Chinese designer, Guo Pei. Honestly, I’ve been obsessed ever since! She even told Vogue she’d never forget the moment she found him, and I totally get it! It was a moment.

Following the event’s “Garden of Time” dress code, the singer, known for her song “Love on the Brain,” wore a floral gown by Comme de Garçons. The dress, covered in rosette details, was part of the brand’s runway collection and honored designer Rei Kawakubo and her work, which was the theme of the year.

Rihanna made a show-stopping appearance as a co-host of the Met Gala, wearing a sparkling, short dress and cape inspired by the event’s “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” theme. She even wore a fully beaded hat resembling a pope’s mitre, completing her look which was designed by John Galliano for Maison Margiela.

Rihanna attended her first Met Gala with A$AP Rocky, wearing a dramatic, puffy black gown by Balenciaga. She completed the look with a black beanie and silver jewelry, fitting the event’s theme of “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion.”

Rihanna turned heads at the event celebrating “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” wearing a stunning white Valentino gown. She was visibly pregnant with her second child, Riot Rose Mayers, who was born in August 2023. The gown highlighted her baby bump, and she accessorized with a beautiful white rose coat.

Just before the 2025 Met Gala—hosted in part by A$AP Rocky—Rihanna announced she was expecting her third child. Staying true to the gala’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme, she proudly displayed her baby bump in a unique wool suit designed by Marc Jacobs. The outfit included a classic lapel, a playful red and white polka dot tie, and a stylish bustle, all topped off with a large fedora.
