There are secrets to find, sure, but the core gameplay is established right from the start. It’s not super complex like modern shooters, but that actually works in its favor. It keeps things really fast-paced, and the frantic running and gunning while trying to escape the German soldiers is a total rush.

Despite being a simple shooter, Wolfenstein 3D remains surprisingly fun to play even today. While newer games boast better graphics and more complex gameplay, Wolfenstein 3D‘s streamlined approach and fast pace are still engaging three decades later. It essentially established the core formula for the genre when 3D games were new and exciting. Although many games have since improved upon its ideas, Wolfenstein 3D still delivers solid combat and memorable boss battles.
