Met Gala 2026: Beyoncé’s 2003 Fashion Reference Sparks Act III Theory

World stop: Beyoncé may have just dropped a major hint about her upcoming Act III album.

Beyoncé wore a stunning crystal skeleton dress to the 2026 Met Gala, and fans are speculating it might be a hint about the theme or direction of her upcoming album, rather than just a fashion statement for the event.

As a longtime Beyoncé fan, I was so touched by what she shared with Vogue about her recent look. She said her dress was all about celebrating every body – whether you’re juicy, curvy, or thin, just loving what you’ve been given! But it was amazing to learn that the incredible, bejeweled bodysuit—designed by Olivier Rousteing at Balmain—actually paid tribute to one of her very first concert outfits from when she started going solo. It felt like a full-circle moment and a beautiful way to connect her past and present!

Beyoncé’s recent Met Gala dress sparked comparisons to a memorable outfit she wore in 2003 at a Nelson Mandela AIDS awareness concert. A fan account on Instagram noticed the similarity, pointing out that the current dress echoes a nude mesh gown with crystal detailing by Roberto Cavalli, which she originally wore during her Dangerously In Love tour.

After Beyoncé referenced her past work in 2003, many fans wondered if her next album would be a return to her R&B roots. Some have even gone further, suggesting that her recent album might be her last, as a way to acknowledge her very first release.

The Beyhive, Beyoncé’s dedicated fanbase, has come up with many theories, and the idea of a rock album is a popular one. After Beyoncé explored disco with Act I: Renaissance and country with Act II: Cowboy Carter, many fans predicted Act III would be her first venture into rock music.

For many fans, Beyoncé’s performance at the Met seemed to confirm a particular idea. As one person noted on X (formerly Twitter), the use of skeletons in rock and metal culture – especially in genres like heavy metal and punk – often represents themes of death, strength, and the powerful, darker side of music.

Beyoncé isn’t new to rock music; she explored the genre back in 2016 with the song “Don’t Hurt Yourself” from her album Lemonade. The song featured a collaboration with Jack White, best known as a member of The White Stripes.

Fans are eager to know what Beyoncé is working on next, but they’ll have to be patient. Her publicist, Yvette Noel-Schure, recently addressed rumors on X (formerly Twitter) that the project, reportedly called Act III, was finished. Yvette, who has worked with Beyoncé for many years, firmly denied the claim on April 27, stating it was “unequivocally false!”

Beyoncé shared that this year’s Met Gala was particularly meaningful because her daughter, Blue Ivy, was there. She told Vogue it was a surreal experience and she was thrilled to see the event through Blue Ivy’s perspective.

Okay, Beyoncé always slays, but honestly, get ready to fall head-over-heels for all the looks from the 2026 Met Gala – they’re absolutely incredible! I’m already obsessed.
