Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 Finale’s Major MCU Reunion Officially Explained by Krysten Ritter

The second season of Daredevil: Born Again concluded with a significant turning point, dramatically changing things for the upcoming third season. (MAJOR SPOILERS!) Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil (played by Charlie Cox), finally defeated his arch-enemy, Wilson Fisk, the Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), by publicly revealing his identity as Daredevil in court. He used his own account of events to completely dismantle Fisk’s criminal and political power. However, this victory came at a cost: Matt was arrested for his actions as Daredevil and imprisoned alongside some of the criminals he had previously taken down.

So, the Season 2 finale wrapped up with Luke Cage finally back in Jessica Jones’ life – and back to help with their daughter! He’d been off on some shady international assignments for Valentina and her mysterious boss, ‘Mr. Charles’. Now that the season’s done, Krysten Ritter‘s been chatting about where Jessica, Luke, and their little one are headed, giving Marvel fans a bit more insight into their future.

Krysten Ritter Explains Why Jessica Jones Needs Luke Cage For Her MCU Arc

Krysten Ritter said she needed a compelling reason to reprise her role as Jessica Jones, a character she played for three seasons and a few crossover appearances in the Netflix Marvel shows from the mid-to-late 2010s. She found that reason in Jessica’s personal growth – from a cynical, independent investigator to a protective mother and someone who values family – a change that needed to involve Luke Cage. In an interview with The Wrap, Ritter explained that bringing Jessica into the Daredevil series required a good story justification, and focusing on her desire to help Luke felt like the most important and natural step for the character.

Krysten Ritter Made A Personal Pitch to Get Mike Colter in the MCU

Ryann Ritter actively pushed for a Jessica Jones and Luke Cage reunion within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and Sana Amanat, an executive producer on Daredevil: Born Again, supported the idea. Because Ritter is friends with Mike Colter, she personally contacted him when the possibility came up to suggest they work together again.

I’m really good friends with Mike, and it’s amazing how much our dynamic changes depending on whether we’re just hanging out normally or acting together. Seeing him again for the first time was really emotional for me – it felt like a big moment. It was like no time had passed at all, but also like something truly special we were getting to experience together again.

Ever since his Netflix show Luke Cage ended in 2018, Colter has doubted he’d ever join the main Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, fans started to think a Luke Cage appearance was coming when Colter mentioned he’d had initial conversations with Marvel. It seems those fans were right – as Ritter suspected while filming, seeing Colter’s Luke Cage appear was a truly exciting moment for MCU fans.

Ritter described their connection as truly special and exciting. He added that the entire team felt the same positive energy, calling it a wonderful experience.

Okay, so here’s the buzz: the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again is going to bring back some familiar faces! While Matt Murdock is doing time, we’re going to see his old Defender buddies rally around. That means Power Man, Luke Cage, will be back and looking strong, and he won’t be alone – Jessica Jones is joining him. It sounds like a real team-up, even with Daredevil behind bars, and I’m definitely intrigued to see how they’ll handle this dynamic.
