‘We’re Definitely Pursuing Another Mortal Kombat’: Ed Boon Speaks Amid Injustice 3 Rumours

Now that the Mortal Kombat 2 movie is coming out in US theaters this week, it was likely the series creator, Ed Boon, would continue making new games. However, it’s still notable to hear him officially confirm a new project, especially with rumors about Injustice 3 circulating.

Speaking with Collider, via IGN, here’s what he said:

We’re absolutely working on a new Mortal Kombat game, and we have many other projects in development too. We’re exploring opportunities beyond games, like movies and TV shows, and we’ll be sharing exciting news soon.

He isn’t directly stating their next game will be Mortal Kombat. He’s simply saying his team is still working on the Mortal Kombat franchise, including both new games and other related projects.

The game didn’t sell as well as previous installments in the series. Despite initial promises of ongoing support for ‘years,’ the developers stopped releasing new content after only 20 months.

As we recently shared, Netherrealm Studios appears to be working on a new Injustice game – the first in the DC fighting game series for nearly a decade.

We’ve really enjoyed the first two games in this series, and we’ve also heard positive feedback about the comics.
