Frogwares is releasing a sequel to their 2019 Lovecraftian horror game, The Sinking City. Called The Sinking City 2, it’s even more unsettling and will be available this summer on Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC. A new trailer showcases gameplay and some of the strange things players will find in the 1920s version of Arkham.
A huge flood has overwhelmed the city, and people are now getting around by boat. In the midst of this chaos, occult investigator Calvin Rafferty is desperately searching for a way to save his girlfriend, Faye. His quest won’t be easy, especially with terrifying creatures called the Slither lurking around, taking over corpses and turning them into puppets.
You’ll have much bigger things to worry about, considering you’re facing a mysterious enemy and a strange creature. Beyond that, the game focuses on classic survival horror – you’ll need to carefully manage your limited supplies and inventory while investigating cases and solving puzzles.
Game director Alexander Gresko announced that the team’s ambition to push The Sinking City 2 further into the survival horror genre has paid off. He shared that the development team is proud of the progress they’ve made and excited to get the game into the hands of both new players and long-time fans.
We’ve expanded creatively by changing the game’s genre, but we’re still keeping the core focus on investigation that our players expect. We’ve added more combat, survival elements, and exploration, and investigation will be available as an extra layer of gameplay for those who enjoy it.
We’ve focused on crafting a compelling and sophisticated story, something our fans have come to expect from us. This time, the narrative is deeply connected to the main character’s journey, but still explores the complex moral choices and unsettling Lovecraftian atmosphere that define our games.
Developing The Sinking City 2 has been especially meaningful for the Ukrainian team after the difficulties they faced following the 2022 Russian invasion. The game is also improving in several ways, including a switch to Unreal Engine 5, increased horror elements, and the option to skip investigations and focus on action. We expect to share a firm release date in the next few weeks, so stay tuned for more news!
