Nick Cannon Clarifies Daughter’s Comment About Having Only One Sibling

Nick Cannon is setting the record straight.

After Nick Cannon’s 15-year-old daughter, Monroe, made a comment that quickly spread online – saying she only has one brother – Nick explained what she meant. Monroe and her twin brother, Moroccan, are Nick’s children with his ex-wife, Mariah Carey. Nick is a father to twelve children in total.

It’s funny how people misunderstood what the conversation was about,” Nick Cannon explained to Shannon Sharpe on the April 29th episode of the Club Shay Shay podcast. “It wasn’t a serious discussion at all – it was more like how teenagers talk to each other.

In November 2025, Monroe sparked some confusion when she posted on Instagram, clarifying that she has only one brother, @moroccan.cannon. She also mentioned she has other siblings through her father, but they are much younger than her.

Nick’s recent explanation clarifies a confusing comment he made earlier. The confusion stemmed from the fact that Monroe and Moroccan have many younger half-siblings, and some teenagers online were falsely claiming to be related to them.

My daughter really wanted to make sure everyone understood something,” he said. She was determined to point out, especially to kids her own age, that she only has one brother. It was important to her to get that straight!

Nick Cannon has twelve children in total. He shares twins Monroe and Moroccan with Mariah Carey. He also has nine other children with five different women: Golden (9) and Powerful Queen (5) with Brittany Bell; twins Zion and Zillion (4) and Beautiful Zeppelin (3) with Abby De La Rosa; Legendary Love (3) with Bre Tiesi; Onyx Ice (3) with LaNisha Cole; and Halo Marie (3) with Alyssa Scott. Sadly, Nick and Alyssa’s son, Zen, passed away in 2021 at just five months old after being diagnosed with brain cancer.

Monroe and Moroccan actually have a good relationship with their younger siblings, and they enjoy spending time with them during the holidays. So, it’s not surprising that Monroe was upset when her comments became widely shared online.

Nick explained on the Club Shay Shay podcast that the public overreacted to a comment his teenage daughter made. He said, ‘Everyone turned a simple conversation into something bigger, and it hurt her feelings. She just meant to say my kids have other siblings.’

Fortunately, the former host of America’s Got Talent is used to being in the public eye and shared some helpful advice about social media with his daughter.

He finished by saying, ‘Monroe, you don’t need to justify yourself to anyone. But this should teach you to be careful about what you post online. Even a small thing can be taken out of context and become a much bigger problem than you intended.’

Just five months after their son Zen was born, Nick Cannon shared the heartbreaking news of his passing from brain cancer. On the December 7th episode of The Nick Cannon Show, he praised Alyssa, Zen’s mother, saying, “Alyssa was the strongest woman I’ve ever seen. They never argued, and she was never angry. She was emotional when she needed to be, but always the best mom, and continues to be.” Cannon expressed gratitude to his whole family, but especially to Alyssa.

He reminded everyone that you can’t truly know what others are experiencing. He urged people to show their loved ones affection – hug your family, kiss someone, and tell them how you feel.

Model Bre Tiesi and Nick Cannon welcomed their son on June 28, 2022. The baby weighed 8 pounds and 10 ounces at birth.

Bre announced in an Instagram post from July 2022 that she had a natural, unmedicated home birth. She described the experience as incredibly challenging, humbling, and ultimately empowering, and expressed her gratitude to her birth team for ensuring her son’s safe delivery.

Nick and model LaNisha Cole welcomed a daughter on Sept. 14, 2022. 

Brittany gave birth to her third child with Nick on Sept. 23, 2022.

Abby gave birth to a baby girl, her third child with Nick, in November 2022.

Alyssa gave birth to her and Nick’s daughter on Dec. 14, 2022.

The model posted a video on Instagram of the Wild ‘n Out star assisting with their baby’s delivery. She shared that their lives have been forever changed, and that she feels her baby, Zen, is present in every moment. She believes his spirit was with them during the birth and continues to watch over them, sending signs each day. She cherishes the memory and will hold it close forever.

I’ll never forget hearing Nick say ‘It’s a girl,’ and seeing all our journey reflected in his expression. I’ll also cherish the sound of our baby’s first cry and feeling her tiny heartbeat next to mine. Our sweet little girl is such a wonderful surprise! We love you so much, Halo Marie Cannon!
