Daredevil: Born Again Season 3’s Villain Return Officially Explained by Creator (& It’s Because of Season 1 Mistakes)

The upcoming third season of Daredevil: Born Again appears to be addressing a major issue from the show’s first season. The second season ended with Matt Murdock publicly revealing his identity as Daredevil, which defeated Wilson Fisk but also landed Matt in jail. Meanwhile, Matt’s former girlfriend, Heather Glenn – who was previously fixated on vigilantes and targeted by a serial killer – seemed deeply traumatized by her experiences, setting the stage for her transformation into the villain Lady Muse, a character recently introduced in the comics.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Dario Scardapane revealed the show is now addressing a storyline issue that originated in the first season. He explained that the original ‘Muse’ plotline didn’t feel fully developed due to limitations in what was filmed and available footage. Scardapane admitted they were constrained by budget and time, and felt the ‘Muse’ storyline deserved more weight.

As a movie fan, I found the psychologist character incredibly compelling. She operates in the same world as Daredevil and the Punisher, dealing with people who hide behind masks, and she’s actually been hurt by a vigilante herself. It’s fascinating because she starts blurring the lines between serial killers and vigilantes, and ends up publicly supporting Fisk. We really explored what would happen if she embraced that trauma, if letting it consume her actually helped resolve her internal struggles. We talked with Margarita Levieva about this, and it’s evolving into something almost supernatural. This isn’t just a character appearing out of nowhere; we’re building a backstory, showing why she becomes this person, why she goes down such a dark path. I think audiences will actually understand her motivations, and honestly, I don’t think anyone will see where her story ultimately goes – which is a really exciting thing as a viewer!

Heather Glenn Will Become a Terrifying Villain in Daredevil: Born Again Season 3

Heather’s storyline in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 has been particularly challenging. Her struggles don’t seem to be purely emotional; the Daredevil universe has always included supernatural forces, as seen in the original Netflix series with the Hand. This season carefully portrays Heather as a woman deeply affected by trauma, while also suggesting she might be genuinely haunted by something demonic. Given that Mephisto is now established in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s possible the Muse is a being that jumps between hosts, damaging them in the process.

It will be interesting to see what happens with the Lady Muse storyline in the upcoming season of Daredevil: Born Again. Heather, who previously saw the mask as a way for vigilantes to feel powerful, will likely use it to control others, especially those who have hurt her – and she particularly blames Karen Page. We might see another tense confrontation between them, possibly building on their previous, dramatic encounter when Heather tried to get information from Karen for Fisk. Plus, Buck seems to have a strong connection with Heather, so he could end up helping her.

As a big Daredevil fan, I’m really excited for Season 3, but also a little worried. It sounds like they’re packing it with a lot of villains, and balancing all those stories is going to be tough – we saw them struggle with that before, even with a solid character arc like Heather’s getting lost in the shuffle. Bringing back the Defenders is amazing, but a bigger cast always adds pressure. The writer seems to think this addresses an issue from Season 1, which is good to hear, and I’m hoping Marvel really listens and makes sure everyone gets the attention they deserve!
