The 1990s were a fantastic time for action movies. Building on the success of the 1980s, ’90s action films upped the excitement with impressive visual effects, creating some truly memorable movies. Now, one of the best and most beloved action films from that decade – a cult classic fans have been waiting to see a sequel to for thirty years – is available to stream on Hulu.
Fans of action movies can now watch Con Air on Hulu! This classic 1997 thriller, starring Nicolas Cage, John Cusack, and John Malkovich, has often been compared to Die Hard but takes place on a plane transporting prisoners. The story follows Cameron Poe, a former Army Ranger, who just wants to get home to his family after being released from prison. But when dangerous inmates take over the flight, he has to stop them and ensure everyone’s safety—including his own—to finally make it home. Con Air became available on Hulu on April 1st.
Con Air Is an Iconic ‘90s Action Movie, and There’s Still Hope for a Sequel
As a huge fan of 90s action movies, I have to say Con Air really holds up. It’s just pure, over-the-top fun! It doesn’t even try to be realistic, and that’s what I love about it. The villains are wonderfully outrageous – seriously, who forgets Cyrus “The Virus” Grissom or “Diamond Dog”? – and the dialogue is full of those perfect, cheesy one-liners like “Put the bunny back in the box!” But where Con Air truly shines is the action. From the massive explosions to the incredible climax on the Las Vegas Strip, it’s a perfect example of those big-budget, adrenaline-pumping action films that defined the decade.
Despite mixed reviews from critics – it currently has a 59% score on Rotten Tomatoes – the movie Con Air has become a beloved classic among fans. Audiences give it a 75% rating, and many have campaigned for a sequel. While Con Air 2 hasn’t happened yet, there’s still a possibility. Nicolas Cage’s co-star, West, told Screen Geek in 2025 that he would absolutely participate in a sequel if Cage was on board. He shared that they’ve discussed it previously and believes a well-written script with most of the original cast could make it a really enjoyable experience.
What’s New on Hulu?
Hulu has added a lot of new movies this month, and it’s not just Con Air. Subscribers can now stream films like I, Robot, The Last Duel, Minority Report, Panic Room, War of the Worlds, the original Star Wars trilogy, and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
