The initial release of Daredevil: Born Again was a significant moment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but Season 2 promised to be even more ambitious. Now that the season has concluded, it’s clear the show has exceeded expectations, pushing the MCU in unexpected and thrilling directions. While the season ends with Matt Murdock triumphing over Wilson Fisk, he had to make a surprising and unforeseen choice to do so. Be warned: spoilers ahead.
Cornered and desperate, Matt decides the only way to defeat Wilson Fisk and end his criminal reign is to reveal his secret identity. He publicly announces he’s Daredevil in a crowded courtroom, proving his abilities, and then fully unmasks himself after a fierce fight. Ultimately, the authorities are left with no option but to arrest him, and the season concludes with Matt Murdock beginning his prison sentence. The future is now uncertain.
Daredevil: Born Again Will Use the Defenders to Spring Matt

A major highlight of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 was the return of Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, and the finale also brought back Mike Colter as Luke Cage. Fans had already suspected this would happen, as Colter had shared pictures with Finn Jones (Iron Fist) while filming scenes for what was then Born Again Season 3. Basically, the original team of heroes is reuniting, and it looks like they’ll be the key to helping Matt Murdock get out of prison.
Fans of Daredevil comics will remember that Matt Murdock has been to jail before, and the first time was particularly unusual. He was arrested and awaiting trial on Ryker’s Island, falsely accused of being Daredevil, and shared the prison with notorious villains like Kingpin and The Punisher. While Matt was locked up, another hero started using the Daredevil identity to protect Hell’s Kitchen.
It turned out Danny Rand, also known as Iron Fist, was the masked figure. While the show couldn’t fully explain why – it involved a complicated plan by Vanessa Fisk to bother Matt – Iron Fist pretending to be Daredevil and convincing people Matt’s confession was a lie could be a major plot point. If the public starts to question whether Matt is truly Daredevil, he might be released. There’s also a chance Luke Cage could use his influence to help Matt, especially with the upcoming mayoral election. Regardless, the Defenders are definitely working to support Matt.
The situation surrounding Matt Murdock’s imprisonment in the Daredevil: Born Again series differs significantly from the comics. In the original Marvel stories, his identity as Daredevil was revealed to the public, and he was accused of being the masked vigilante – though his attempt to escape the courtroom didn’t help his case. However, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Matt actually confessed to being Daredevil, making it much harder to undo the damage and restore his secret identity.
How Does Spider-Man: Brand New Day Connect to Daredevil: Born Again Season 3?

Fans are also wondering how Daredevil might escape prison, and it’s connected to Spider-Man. For a while, there have been rumors that Charlie Cox, who plays Daredevil, will appear in the new Spider-Man: Brand New Day movie, and the trailer seems to confirm this. The trailer features The Hand, a dangerous ninja group, as major villains, and they’re fighting Spider-Man both on a rooftop and…inside a prison.
This has led to speculation that Spider-Man will rescue Matt Murdock from prison, possibly to help him battle The Hand or for some other purpose. However, there are a couple of issues with this idea. First, Charlie Cox has repeatedly stated he isn’t involved with the Spider-Man films. Second, it would create a confusing storyline. While the Marvel Cinematic Universe is known for its connections, it’s unlikely a major plot point from Daredevil: Born Again will be resolved in a completely separate movie.
The final scene of the episode – Matt locked in a prison cell with the door closing – strongly suggests that the story will continue in the next season. While Cox might not be revealing everything about his role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it’s clear that the resolution to this cliffhanger will happen in Season 3 of Daredevil: Born Again.
