Elden Ring 2 Splits Gamers Down The Middle

It’s amazing to think it’s already been four years since Elden Ring came out and became a global phenomenon. Many fans see it as FromSoftware’s greatest achievement. Whether you loved it or not, Elden Ring undeniably earned its legendary reputation, giving us the first truly open-world Souls game packed with things to do.

Since it came out, Elden Ring has become incredibly popular, capturing the public’s imagination. The game recently received a major expansion called Shadow of the Erdtree, and a new, different kind of game based on Elden Ring, called Elden Ring: Nightreign, was also immediately successful. Plus, a live-action movie inspired by the game is being made, and fans are thrilled with the actors who have been cast.

Whenever a popular video game is released, players quickly start wondering if a sequel will be made. As of now, FromSoftware hasn’t announced or even hinted at an Elden Ring sequel, and appears to be focusing on new games like The Duskbloods, which will be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. However, the studio does have experience with sequels – the Dark Souls series became a successful trilogy. On the other hand, games like Bloodborne have only had one installment. It’s currently unknown whether Elden Ring will get the Dark Souls treatment and receive further games, or remain a single adventure. Despite the lack of official information, fans are already discussing the possibility of an Elden Ring sequel on the r/videogames subreddit.

With the release of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, players are debating whether Elden Ring needs a sequel. One user started the conversation by wondering if Hidetaka Miyazaki should instead focus on creating a completely new game for the next few years. While Elden Ring is considered a landmark achievement in gaming, some feel the story feels finished after the DLC, offering a complete narrative. A sequel could improve the game’s open world, but Miyazaki is known for his ability to create fresh and innovative games – moving from the Souls series to Bloodborne and then Sekiro – and many believe he should continue to do so.

With over 200 comments, it’s clear that Elden Ring fans have strong opinions about what FromSoftware should do next. The most popular comment summed it up by saying they’re such dedicated fans they’d be happy with anything the company releases, especially more Armored Core. Others agreed, jokingly comparing their loyalty to being part of a cult, stating they’d gladly accept a new game, Elden Ring 2, a Bloodborne remake, Sekiro DLC, Armored Core 7, a Dark Souls 3 remaster, or even a reboot of King’s Field – really, anything at all.

Someone shared a potentially unpopular opinion: they’d love to see a series of three Elden Ring games, similar to the Dark Souls games. But another commenter disagreed, saying that FromSoftware should focus on creating new and original games like Sekiro or Armored Core VI, and move away from the Souls formula for a while.

As a big FromSoftware fan, I’m really excited about The Duskbloods coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year! It’s cool to know it’s happening, but honestly, I’m already wondering what they’ll do next – the possibilities feel endless!
