Following the sixth episode of The Boys Season 5, Homelander is now incredibly powerful, making it almost impossible for anyone to defeat him. Warning: Spoilers ahead! Throughout the Prime Video series, the team has tried to take down Homelander, but with the new V1 compound in his system, he’s become too strong. The final words of Butcher in the episode, “Though the Heavens Fall,” suggest just how dire the situation has become. Even Butcher, who rarely avoids a fight, seems hesitant to confront Antony Starr’s character, highlighting the immense power Homelander now possesses.
When ranking the characters in The Boys by power, Homelander is clearly the strongest. It’s difficult to see anyone beating him in a straight-up fight. While a few characters might be able to stop him with their special abilities, creating a chance to defeat him completely is still possible.
3) Ryan Butcher

While it seems improbable that Ryan could defeat Homelander, especially after their fight in Season 5 of The Boys clearly showed Homelander’s superior strength – even before considering his V1 powers – Ryan did manage to injure Homelander, a feat few others have achieved. He also survived the brutal attack, likely because Homelander’s complex feelings for his son held him back. Ryan is still learning to control his powers and lacks combat experience. However, he might be able to exploit his connection with Homelander to lull him into a false sense of security and then gain the upper hand. When fueled by anger, Ryan is also capable of incredibly powerful attacks, as demonstrated by his near-defeat of Stormfront. Therefore, despite the odds, fans shouldn’t completely dismiss the possibility of Ryan winning.
2) Marie Moreau

With only two episodes remaining in Season 5 of The Boys, the show needs to integrate the characters from Gen V quickly. A recent increase in Homelander’s powers might finally give Marie Moreau a crucial role. Marie’s ability to control blood – even inside people – could be the key to solving the team’s current problem. If she can remove the V1 from Homelander’s system, Butcher’s virus might actually work, letting The Boys go back to their original plan. Marie might even be able to eliminate Compound V from Homelander completely, turning him into a normal human – something he fears most. This would open the door for anyone, including Marie, to finally defeat him without risking retaliation.
1) Soldier Boy

In Season 5 of The Boys, Soldier Boy and Homelander have a tense connection – and it all started with Soldier Boy giving Homelander the V1 compound. Despite this, they might still end up as enemies in the final episodes. As we saw with his fight against Bombsight, Soldier Boy has the potential to defeat – or at least seriously weaken – Homelander. Soldier Boy’s unique ability to emit radiation can strip other supes of their powers, and it worked on Bombsight, proving it even affects those with V1. While it takes time for the radiation to take effect, and he’d need help to distract Homelander, this power is currently one of the few that could actually harm him. Once Homelander’s powers are gone, anyone could potentially finish him off.
