With Black Ops 7 well underway, Call of Duty fans are starting to ask about the next installment in the series.
Call of Duty has consistently released a major new game each year since 2005, beginning with Call of Duty 2.
It looks like 2026 will follow the same pattern, so here’s a rundown of what Activision and Treyarch have revealed about their next project.
When could the next CoD come out? Release date speculation
The release date for the next Call of Duty game has not been confirmed yet.
We’re quite sure the next Call of Duty game will come out in either October or November of 2026.
We’re very confident in this prediction because every Call of Duty game has launched in either October or November, with Warzone being the only exception – it came out in March 2020.

Call of Duty games have historically released around late October or mid-November. Last year’s game, BO7, came out in mid-November, and BO6 released in late October, so we expect the new Call of Duty game to be available between the last week of October and mid-November.
Activision might try to release the game sooner rather than later to avoid competing with the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6, which is scheduled for mid-November.
What is the next CoD game? Modern Warfare 4 rumours explained
Although Activision hasn’t officially announced the next Call of Duty title, reliable sources suggest the 2026 game will be called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Infinity Ward is reportedly working on Modern Warfare 4, sometimes styled as Modern Warfare 사, with “sa” being the Korean word for “four,” according to a post by TheGhostOfHope on X.
The game is said to include a campaign set on the Korean Peninsula, where players will primarily control the 141, the SAS, and the South Korean army.
The story of the next Modern Warfare game, MW4, is rumored to pick up where Modern Warfare 3 left off, focusing on Vladimir Makarov and his Konni Group. They’re reportedly carrying out secret operations designed to look like they’re being committed by other countries, with the ultimate goal of starting a global war – World War 3.
The game is expected to include some weapons from the future, but will mostly focus on a contemporary setting.
Activision hasn’t revealed many specifics about the next Call of Duty game – it’s still unclear if it will be Modern Warfare 4 – but they have confirmed it won’t be available on older consoles like the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. This means players with those systems will need to upgrade to play the new game.
