Subnautica 2 Reaches 5 Million Wishlists Ahead of Early Access Launch

It’s impressive how popular Subnautica 2 has become! The game stayed at the top of Steam’s wishlist charts for a long time, and now Unknown Worlds has announced it’s been wishlisted five million times across all platforms, just before it enters early access. To celebrate this milestone, all players will receive a free Reaper Leviathan Statue decoration for their bases, instead of just those who wishlisted it during the first week.

After being announced early in February 2024, the development of Subnautica 2 faced some challenges, including setbacks and a legal dispute. Now, players on Xbox Series X/S and PC (and those with Game Pass) can finally try an early access version starting May 14th, which features diverse environments and multiplayer gameplay.

If you’re looking for specifics, the developers promise this game will have even more diverse environments, creatures, and massive Leviathans at launch compared to previous early access releases – with a bigger emphasis on alien life. While the story won’t be fully fleshed out at first, the recent gameplay trailer has definitely sparked our interest. We’re left wondering about the strange tree shown in the stunning cinematic trailer and why we’re warned not to listen to it. Hopefully, this is just one of many mysteries the game will reveal.

The developers anticipate that Subnautica 2 will be in early access for a minimum of two years, but it may take longer due to the flexible nature of early access development.
