Despite Netflix’s reputation for cancelling shows, it’s also given a second life to several popular ones that were previously cancelled or struggling. We wouldn’t have the later seasons of Arrested Development if it weren’t for Netflix, and the same is true for Designated Survivor, Lucifer, Manifest, and now another comedy series joining that successful list.
Netflix now has both seasons of Everyone is Doing Great. The show originally debuted on Hulu in 2021 with its first season, which was created by James Lafferty and Stephen Colletti, both known for their work on One Tree Hill. Season one received positive reviews, earning an 80% score from critics and a remarkable 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. While Hulu didn’t renew the show, the cast independently produced a second season in 2023. Now, five years after the initial release and three years after production of the second season, Netflix has added both seasons for viewers to enjoy.
Everyone is Doing Great Season 2 Has Taken a Long Road to Release
This comedy is a surprisingly good show that has gotten even better over time. It’s a mature and honest show, willing to explore sadder themes, and you can feel that the emotional moments come from the creators’ own lives, though they’ve likely exaggerated things a bit. The creators, Lafferty and Coletti, had promising careers after One Tree Hill, but haven’t achieved the same level of consistent work as some of their contemporaries from shows like Dawson’s Creek or The OC.
Coletti recently told TVInsider about the show’s comeback, which was made possible by a deal with Sony TV that brought it to Netflix. He explained it had been a long road, and they’d struggled to get noticed in a difficult industry where few projects were being approved. Fortunately, they had already filmed the show independently, giving them a completed product to present.
The show features familiar faces from a popular vampire series – Jeremy Davis is played by Lafferty and Seth Stewart by Colletti. Alexandra Park (known from The Royals), Cariba Heine (Designated Survivor), and Karissa Lee Staples (SWAT) also star as Cariba, Isabella, and Sarah, respectively. Many consider it one of Netflix’s funniest new comedies, and both seasons are available to stream now. If you’re a fan of One Tree Hill, which did well on Netflix, this show is a great option while you wait for the potential OTH reboot that Netflix is developing.
