I’m so excited for Eurovision! Germany’s entry this year is absolutely going to bring the energy – they’re kicking things off live from Vienna as the first semi-final begins, and I can already tell it’s going to be a fantastic show!
Singer Sarah Engels is aiming for a top finish in the competition. She faces the challenge of bringing a win back to Germany, which hasn’t happened since Lena’s hit song ‘Satellite’ won in 2010.
Because Germany is one of the major participating countries, Sarah is automatically qualified for the grand final. However, new rules for 2024 require her to perform a preview of her song during the first semi-final, giving viewers a sneak peek.

Where did Germany come in the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest?

Germany’s entry in last year’s competition was the brother and sister pair, Abor & Tynna, from Austria. Their song, “Baller,” earned them 151 points and a 15th-place finish among 26 participating countries.
The Eurovision Song Contest has received a lot of criticism for letting Israel compete this year, given the current war happening in Gaza.
Several countries are choosing not to participate in the contest this year because the organization in charge, the European Broadcasting Union, decided against banning Israel from competing.
In December 2025, the EBU held a meeting where members voted to create rules preventing governments or outside groups from unfairly boosting certain songs to sway voting results. However, they did not vote on whether Israel would be allowed to participate.
The European Broadcasting Union announced that most of its members decided a new vote on participation wasn’t necessary. They confirmed that the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest will go ahead as scheduled, with extra safety measures added.
After this announcement, Ireland, Spain, the Netherlands, Slovenia, and Iceland all stated they would not be competing in Eurovision this year.
Ireland’s public broadcaster, RTÉ, has decided not to participate in this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, stating that it doesn’t feel right given the tragic loss of life and ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which continues to endanger civilians.
The BBC, the UK broadcaster for the competition, backs the EBU’s decision. In a statement, they explained it’s about following the rules and ensuring the event is inclusive for everyone.
The Eurovision Song Contest 2026 final will take place on Saturday 16 May 2026.
