Mark Consuelos is navigating his grief journey.
It’s been over a month since Kelly and Mark’s cohost, Mark Consuelos, announced the passing of his father, Saul Consuelos, who died at 87 after a long illness. Mark recently shared how he’s been dealing with the grief.
He described the five months before his passing as very difficult. Speaking on the I’ve Never Said This Before With Tommy DiDario podcast, he explained that everyone was aware of what was coming, according to People magazine.
Mark had wished for a peaceful death, and he was relieved the patriarch died swiftly and without suffering.
Even though 55-year-old Mark Consuelos—who shares children Michael, 28, Lola, 24, and Joaquin, 23, with his wife Kelly Ripa—knew his father’s death was coming, it was still hard to process.
I really look up to my father. He’s the most admirable person I know, and I’ve learned everything good about how to behave and present myself from him.
And in recent weeks, the loss of his father is feeling all the more real.
Mark admitted he’d never actually said he missed his dad. He explained that because his father has always been present and supportive, he just hadn’t felt the need to express that longing.
He shared that he’ll deeply miss the simple things – hugging his dad, holding his hand, and sharing laughter. It was the first time he’d ever expressed missing his father in such a way.
The feeling intensified as Saul’s family and friends held a formal farewell for him.

I was just at a memorial service for him this past Monday, and it was really when the whole family came together that it truly hit me – the finality of his loss, the fact that he’s really gone. It was a tough moment, realizing it’s real.
I was so saddened to hear about Saul’s passing. He shared the news himself on Live With Kelly and Mark back in April, and it meant a lot to me to hear him say that his dad had passed away peacefully. It was a really touching moment, even through the sadness.
Kelly—who tied the knot with Mark in 1996—reflected on her own relationship with her father-in-law.
She told Mark he was lucky to have known his father all his life. She explained that she’d only had 31 wonderful years with her father-in-law, and she’d miss him dearly every day, just as Mark and their children would too.
