Rockstar Games Accused of Stonewalling Legal Proceedings by Scottish Members of Parliament

Rockstar Games, the developer of Grand Theft Auto 6, is being criticized by several Scottish Members of Parliament. They accuse the company of hindering a legal case concerning claims that Rockstar unfairly prevented its workers from forming a union. According to the Independent Workers’ Union of Great Britain (IWGB), MPs Chris Murray, Dr. Scott Arthur, and Tracy Gilbert have requested more openness and cooperation from Rockstar as the legal process moves forward.

Murray recently voiced his worries about how Rockstar Games handled its November 2025 layoffs. Gilbert, however, was disappointed that the company didn’t properly communicate with employees, their representatives, or unions.

Gilbert stated that all workers deserve a fair way to appeal decisions and to be able to share their concerns. He expressed disappointment with Rockstar’s lack of communication with employees, their representatives, and unions during this situation. He believes that requests for fairness, openness, and respect shouldn’t be ignored, particularly when people’s jobs and rights are on the line.

According to Alex Marshall, president of the IWGB union, Rockstar Games has spent the last six months delaying legal processes related to claims of anti-union behavior. He accused the company of disrespecting UK labor laws and refusing to cooperate with repeated requests for information.

We’ve spent the last six months facing legal delays and obstruction from the company following the layoffs. When Rockstar dismissed 31 of our members with no notice, we immediately believed it was a deliberate attempt to undermine the union, and their continued avoidance of the legal process has only confirmed that belief.

The company has behaved as if the rules don’t apply to them, completely disregarding UK trade union law. We’ve repeatedly asked for their cooperation – offering to meet in person and requesting the reasons behind the dismissals – but they haven’t responded. When they do reply, their explanations keep changing and don’t make sense.

Rockstar employees are demonstrating that workers, regardless of a company’s size or success, can demand better treatment when they stand together. Through consistent protests, media outreach, and legal efforts, they’ve brought attention to unfair practices at major game studios and shown industry leaders that workers are increasingly unionizing and prepared to fight for their rights.

This recent development follows a few months after MP Murray raised concerns with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer about Rockstar’s behavior during a parliamentary session. Starmer responded by saying his government would investigate the studio’s actions.

Keir Starmer described the situation as very worrying. He emphasized that all workers have the right to join a union and that Labour is committed to protecting those rights and preventing unfair treatment for union members. He stated that his team would investigate the specific case brought up by Murray and provide him with updates.
