Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka Make Rare Outing With Teen Twins

Neil Patrick Harris and his whole family suited up for a special occasion.

Neil Patrick Harris and his husband, David Burtka, recently enjoyed a rare public outing with their 15-year-old twins, Gideon and Harper. The family attended Family Equality’s Night at the Pier Gala in New York City on May 11th.

Neil, age 52, and his family looked happy as they posed for photos on the red carpet. The actor, known for Series of Unfortunate Events, and his son Gideon both wore black suits, while David, 50, chose a dark blue outfit. Harper stood out in a beautiful gold and floral strapless gown.

It was a truly special occasion. Neil and David received the Luminary Award from Family Equality, who recognized them for being strong advocates and role models for LGBTQ+ families and their ongoing dedication.

Oh my gosh, it was EVERYTHING! Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka actually received their award from Sir Elton John and David Furnish – can you believe it?! Those two are total couple goals and huge advocates themselves, and they have teenagers too! It was so sweet seeing Neil and David walk on stage with their gorgeous twins right there beside them. Honestly, I was practically screaming! It was just… perfect.

The significance of the award was not lost on Neil. 

He shared on Instagram on May 12th that he and his family were thrilled to receive the Luminary Award from @familyequality at their annual Gala. He was especially excited that @eltonjohn and @davidfurnish introduced them – it was a fantastic night celebrating a truly special organization.

And the recognition was even more fulfilling because he was able to share it with his loved ones.

“I’m so proud of my family. Just… yeah,” he wrote. “They make me so proud. I feel very #grateful.”

Neil and David are generally private about their children, Harper and Gideon, who were born in 2010. However, they often share their love and pride for the twins publicly. In an October 2024 Instagram post, Neil wrote about how incredibly proud he and David are of Harper and Gideon, praising their maturity, warmth, and charm. He also expressed their unconditional love and how much joy the twins bring to their lives.
