It was great to see Regular Show back! Regular Show: The Lost Tapes just dropped, and it feels like everyone from the original series has returned. I recently read an interview with J.G. Quintel, the creator of the show (and the voice of Mordecai and Hi-Five Ghost!), and he talked about what fans can expect from this new spin-off and how he’s planning to wrap things up with The Lost Tapes. The story takes place both during and after the events of the original series, which is really exciting.
J.G. Quintel recently told Variety that the upcoming spin-off, Regular Show: The Lost Tapes, will offer a satisfying conclusion for longtime viewers. He emphasized that watching the entire series will be rewarding, with plenty of the classic Mordecai and Rigby antics fans love. The spin-off will also delve into the backstories of supporting characters like Margaret and Eileen, and introduce some new faces, giving them dedicated episodes and expanding the show’s universe.
How Lost Tapes Changes Regular Show
J.G. Quintel, creator of Regular Show, clarified to Variety that the spin-off, The Lost Tapes, isn’t a remake of the original series. He explained they intentionally avoided altering established events, understanding viewers worry about changes in reboots and character returns. Acknowledging characters died at the end of Regular Show, Quintel revealed the first episode of The Lost Tapes will explain how they’re bringing those characters back. He described it as a unique, half-hour special with a different format than previous episodes, which required convincing the network to approve. Ultimately, he’s excited for viewers to revisit the world of Regular Show and then enjoy the rest of the spin-off.
For those unfamiliar, Regular Show: The Lost Tapes continues the story after the original series ended. In the finale, Pops heroically gave his life to defeat his brother and ascended to heaven. There, he enjoys watching recordings of his and the park’s past adventures on VHS tapes labeled “Regular Show.” The spin-off begins when Pops accidentally breaks one of these tapes and embarks on a new quest to find a replacement – and that’s how the series has unfolded so far. Good news for fans: Cartoon Network has confirmed that The Lost Tapes will have forty episodes, meaning there are plenty more stories to come.
