Filming for The Batman: Part II is underway, and it’s already generating a lot of buzz online. The Batman 2 was a trending topic on social media during its first week of production, largely due to director Matt Reeves, who seems to have improved his marketing approach since the first film. Reeves has been sharing glimpses of the sequel, including details about the wintery Gotham City setting and the large cast of both new and returning actors.
As a huge fan of The Batman, I know keeping track of the cast for Part II can be a little tricky! So, I’ve put together a complete list of everyone who’s confirmed to be in the sequel, whether they were in the first movie or are brand new to the cast. You won’t need to scroll through social media anymore – I’ve got you covered!
Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman (Returning)

Robert Pattinson is set to reprise his role as Batman in The Batman: Part II. While his initial casting as the Caped Crusader was met with some skepticism, he’s won over fans with his performance in The Batman (2022) and has been consistently praised for his acting choices. Pattinson is having a remarkable run, with a well-received independent film (The Drama) and major roles in upcoming blockbusters from Christopher Nolan (The Odyssey) and Denis Villeneuve (Dune: Part Three) all scheduled for release before he returns as Batman in Part II in 2027. He’s truly become a respected and sought-after actor.
Colin Farrell as Oswald “Oz” Cobb / The Penguin (Returning)

Colin Farrell is returning as Oswald “Oz” Cobb, better known as the Penguin, the limping gangster of Gotham City. The new series follows Oz as he tries to take control of Gotham’s criminal world after the fall of the Falcone and Maroni families. The series concluded with a warning: Batman is still out there, and will eventually challenge Oz’s rule. Farrell’s performance as the Penguin has been so captivating that a continuation of the story wouldn’t feel right without him.
Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon (Returning)

Jeffrey Wright initially faced a lot of negativity regarding his role as Jim Gordon, Batman’s trusted friend and police detective. However, most fans are now excited to see him reprise the role in the next movie. Without knowing the plot, it’s unclear what Gordon’s role will be or if he’ll have a higher rank.
Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth (Returning)

I’m really excited to hear that Andy Serkis is coming back as Alfred Pennyworth in The Batman: Part II! He’s such a fantastic actor, and Alfred is such a crucial character – basically a father figure to Batman. It was a little odd seeing him stuck in the hospital for so much of the first movie, so I’m hoping the sequel gives Serkis a real chance to explore the role and show us why this Alfred is the perfect match for this darker, more brooding Batman. I think there’s a lot of potential there!
Con O’Neill as GCPD Chief Mackenzie Bock (Returning)

Gotham City Police Chief Mackenzie Bock plays a role similar to Nick Fury in the Batman universe, appearing in both The Batman and the The Penguin series. As the city’s police chief, Bock seems adept at maintaining a delicate balance between order and chaos. However, in The Batman: Part II, he’ll be facing an even greater challenge, trying to control a city overwhelmed by a surge of crime and despair – and the potential for even worse things to emerge from the resulting chaos.
Jayme Lawson as Mayor Bella Reál (Returning)

In The Batman, a key part of the story revolved around the race for Gotham’s mayor. The current mayor, Don Mitchell Jr. (played by Rupert Penry-Jones), was challenged by a progressive newcomer, Bella Reál (Jayme Lawson). After Mitchell’s death at the hands of the Riddler, Bella was elected and shown struggling to lead the city, particularly during the events involving the Penguin. Following her role in Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, Jayme Lawson has gained significant recognition, and Mayor Reál is anticipated to have a more prominent role in the next Batman film.
Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez (Returning)

A minor but memorable part of The Batman focuses on Officer Martinez, the police officer who initially tries to keep Batman away from the Mayor’s murder scene. Throughout the film, Martinez begins to trust Batman, eventually working with him to solve the case – his understanding of carpentry tools proves surprisingly helpful. Now an ally of Batman, Martinez will likely remain close to Gordon in any future installments.
Barry Keoghan as The Joker (Rumored Return)

When Matt Reeves briefly featured Barry Keoghan as the Joker in The Batman, he likely didn’t anticipate such a positive fan reaction. Now, Keoghan’s growing popularity and critical acclaim have led to speculation that he could play a major role as the Joker in future films. Rumors are currently circulating that he’ll appear in The Batman: Part II, though the extent of his involvement remains unknown.
Scarlett Johansson as Gilda Dent (New)

Scarlett Johansson will be playing Gilda Dent in the upcoming The Batman: Part II. Gilda is the wife of District Attorney Harvey Dent, who will be portrayed by Sebastian Stan. The character originates from the popular Batman storyline “The Long Halloween,” which takes place during Batman’s second year fighting crime. This story focuses on the dynamic between Batman, Jim Gordon, and Harvey Dent as they investigate a series of murders. Gilda Dent is a key figure in Harvey’s story and his eventual descent into becoming the villain Two-Face. Director Matt Reeves plans to explore the complex and darker aspects of Gilda’s character in the new film.
Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent (New)

Sebastian Stan, known for playing Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in Marvel films, will be taking on the role of Harvey Dent (who eventually becomes Two-Face) in the upcoming The Batman: Part II. Harvey Dent has appeared in every iteration of Batman films, and it will be interesting to see director Matt Reeves’ take on the character. Stan has proven his range with diverse roles, notably in the 2022 horror-thriller Fresh, where he played a charming but sinister character – a performance many believe was a perfect audition for Two-Face.
Charles Dance as Christopher Dent (New)

Charles Dance, known for his role in Game of Thrones, is joining the DC Universe to play Christopher Dent, the father of Harvey Dent (Two-Face). In the comics, Christopher Dent is portrayed as a troubled man – an alcoholic and abusive parent who used a coin flip to control his son with unpredictable punishment. Even when reimagined as a prominent Gotham politician, he remained a flawed character with a gambling problem and a history of abuse. Because of Dance’s commanding presence, many DC fans believe his version of Christopher Dent will be connected to the Court of Owls, a secret society of influential Gotham families who are expected to be the villains in The Batman: Part II.
Sebastian Koch as ??? (New)

Sebastian Koch is known for his roles in Showtime series like the crime drama Your Honor and the thriller Homeland. He’s a talented and adaptable actor, making it difficult to pinpoint what caught the attention of casting directors for The Batman universe. Some fans believe he might play Detective Harvey Bullock, and that’s a reasonable idea. However, Koch could easily portray a corrupt Gotham politician, a powerful businessman, or even a scientist like Kurt Langstrom or Victor Fries.
Brian Tyree Henry as ??? (New)

Brian Tyree Henry is joining the cast of The Batman: Part II, marking his second project within the Batman universe after appearing in the 2019 film Joker. He’s quickly become a popular actor thanks to roles in shows like FX’s Atlanta and Apple TV’s Dope Thief, as well as movies including Eternals and Bullet Train. He’s also known for voicing Miles Morales’ father in the Spider-Verse films. Fans are now speculating about his role in the new Batman movie. Some believe he’ll play a character similar to Lucius Fox, while many are excited by the idea of him as Harvey Bullock alongside Jeffrey Wright’s Jim Gordon. More ambitious theories suggest he might even be the sequel’s villain, possibly as Mister Freeze or even Man-Bat?
The next Batman movie, The Batman: Part II, is scheduled to come out on October 1, 2027. We’re also talking about which Batman film features the most impressive version of Gotham City – join the discussion!
