Maya Hawke was worried her wedding to Christian Lee Hutson would flip upside down.
The Stranger Things actress drew on her own wedding experience with the singer of “Love This Number” to offer advice to future brides on how to enjoy their special day.
Maya recently told People magazine that it’s okay to prioritize your own enjoyment. She realized she spent so much time stressing about whether others were having a good time that she unnecessarily worked herself up. In the end, she had a great time, and so did everyone else, proving her worries weren’t needed.
Looking back, I realize I spent too much time worrying, so my advice would be to let go of those anxieties. Things are going to turn out well. You have plenty of support, so focus on what you want. Don’t exhaust yourself trying to please others – prioritize your own happiness instead.
Although the Do Revenge actress has been private about her wedding, she revealed that everything went smoothly.
“It was a really lovely day,” she said simply, “and I don’t want to dwell on it any further.”
Maya, 27, married Christian, 35, in a romantic Valentine’s Day ceremony in New York City Feb. 14.
Maya celebrated by wearing a stunning, made-to-order Prada gown, complete with a delicate lace veil and a fluffy white coat. Christian chose a timeless black tuxedo with a white shirt and vest, and finished his look with a floral boutonniere.

The wedding guest list was just as star-studded as the beautiful dresses. Maya’s parents, Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke, were there to celebrate, along with many of her co-stars from Netflix, including Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, and Finn Wolfhard.
Just a month after getting married, Maya said the newlyweds were having a “fantastic” time starting their life together.
At the premiere of her movie, Wishful Thinking, on March 12th, Maya told People she felt incredibly lucky and happy, and expressed deep gratitude.
Speaking with Page Six at the event, she shared how grateful she is to have found her best friend—someone she can truly confide in.
