A new Star Wars comic focusing on Kylo Ren is on the way, and it’s reigniting fan discussions about a potential solo movie for the character. Ever since the sequel trilogy ended, fans have been hoping for a film exploring Kylo Ren’s backstory, and director Steven Soderbergh even revealed Lucasfilm once considered a project called The Hunt for Ben Solo that would have brought Adam Driver back to the role. Despite the continued interest – and even Soderbergh’s own enthusiasm – a movie hasn’t materialized, leaving fans disappointed. For now, this new comic book may be the closest they get to a deeper look into Kylo Ren’s story.
Marvel and Lucasfilm have announced a new five-issue comic series called Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren, which will finish the story of Kylo Ren. Written by Charles Soule with art by Will Sliney, the series promises to reveal the full story behind Kylo Ren’s actions and destiny. It will be released on August 12, 2026.
Will Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren Make Up for No Ben Solo Movie?

The upcoming Ben Solo movie will likely appeal to general moviegoers, not just dedicated comic book fans. However, for those who enjoy both the films and the comics, it offers a unique opportunity to see Kylo Ren’s tragic story conclude in a way a movie couldn’t. Writer Charles Soule and artist Will Sliney, who previously collaborated on Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren and Star Wars: Legacy of Vader, are ideally suited to finish this story. In Legacy of Vader, Kylo embarked on a galactic journey to learn the truth about his grandfather, Darth Vader.
In Star Wars: The Fall of Kylo Ren, Kylo returns to the First Order with increased power and resolve, aiming to solidify his role as Supreme Leader. However, his efforts are ultimately unsuccessful. The story shows how General Hux and Pryde dismantle the First Order due to their own desires, and Kylo’s ruthless attempt to regain control only leads to his demise.
As a huge Star Wars fan, I was really excited when I first heard about a potential Ben Solo movie, but it’s still a letdown that it never happened. Apparently, Steven Soderbergh, Adam Driver, and Kathleen Kennedy spent two years developing The Hunt for Ben Solo, and Soderbergh himself said it was incredibly frustrating when Disney passed on it. They just couldn’t figure out how Kylo Ren could have lived! Now that Adam Driver isn’t planning to come back to Star Wars at all, it feels like the movie is totally off the table. It looks like these new comics are the only way we’re ever going to get the full story of Ben Solo, which is a bit sad, honestly.
