The BBC has refuted rumors suggesting that Call the Midwife will conclude after its 15th season.
There was doubt about whether the acclaimed series, airing continuously for over a decade, would continue past its 15th season, as reported by The Daily Star in 2026.
The tabloids hinted that it could adopt a similar approach as Downton Abbey, focusing more on films instead of TV series – and there’s already a Call the Midwife movie planned for release in 1972, with an international setting.
As a devoted film enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that BBC has confirmed the arrival of Season 16, albeit not immediately. This iconic series remains a significant fixture in their lineup, promising more unforgettable moments for us to cherish.
The BBC intends to keep Call the Midwife central to their programming for many years, a statement they’ve made to comfort its audience.
Previously mentioned, we have two Christmas specials, a fresh series, a movie, and a prequel series lined up, followed eventually by the 16th series. Rest assured, “Call the Midwife” will continue to be with us.

It mirrors what Heidi Thomas stated last month following the unveiling of the fresh prequel series and movie.
Thomas expressed that the unveiling of new rooms at Nonnatus House stirred deep emotions within him, but it seemed perfectly fitting. He added that he’d never exhaust his supply of tales for our midwives, nor could he ever do so.
Thomas playfully hinted, “In the prequel, our cherished, dedicated fans have a lot to look forward to, such as seeing some well-known characters (though they’ll be noticeably younger this time!).
As the beloved Call the Midwife series progresses deeper into the 1970s, it appears to be the ideal moment for our cherished characters to step away from Poplar for a brief spell and challenge themselves in an entirely new setting.
Further information about the prequel set in Hong Kong during Christmas, the upcoming holiday special, and the forthcoming film will be released over the next few months.
Call the Midwife seasons 1-14 are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
