The Next James Bond Actor’s 2 Qualifications Officially Revealed (& 1 Rules Henry Cavill Out)

Everyone’s wondering who will be the next James Bond! Several actors are being considered, with a lot of talk about younger stars. Some fans are hoping for a familiar face like Henry Cavill to take on the role. Now that Amazon owns the James Bond franchise, the next 007 will likely be a fresh take on the character, quite different from previous Bonds like Sean Connery, Roger Moore, and Daniel Craig. It sounds like Amazon is planning something new and has certain criteria for who can even try out for the part.

So, Variety is reporting what the casting director, Nina Gold, is looking for in the next James Bond, and it basically comes down to two things. First, they need someone who just naturally has that undeniable sex appeal. But, and this is important, they also need someone relatively young – someone who could realistically play 007 for at least four movies, maybe even more! As a movie fan, that makes total sense – you want someone who can grow with the role.

What Does This Mean for James Bond?

Okay, so I’ve been thinking about who could be the next Bond, and while Henry Cavill definitely has the look, I think his age might be a problem. Daniel Craig was 38 when he started and did five films, finishing up at 53. Pierce Brosnan was 42, and lasted for four movies, ending at 49. If Cavill got the part, he’d be 44 or 45 for the first film, and easily in his 50s by the fourth. That feels a bit old for a long-running Bond arc, honestly. I’m guessing the producers are now leaning towards someone younger – probably in their early to mid-30s, even younger than Craig was when he first became 007.

A number of actors are being considered to play James Bond, including Jacob Elordi (known for his role in Frankenstein), Aaron Taylor-Johnson (Godzilla), and Callum Turner (Eternity). Cosmo Jarvis (Shōgun, Warfare) was also a possibility, but his representatives have stated he’s not currently being considered. Elordi is 28 years old, while Taylor-Johnson and Turner are both 35 and 36, respectively, and Jarvis is also 36.

I just read some interesting news! Apparently, Tom Francis is trying out to be the next James Bond. He’s really young, only 26, but he’s incredibly talented. Most people know him from the stage – he was amazing in the recent revival of Sunset Boulevard with Nicole Scherzinger and even won an Olivier Award for it! He hasn’t done a ton of film work, though he was in the 2025 George Clooney movie Jay Kelly and had a role as Clayton in Season 5 of You on Netflix. It’s exciting to see him throw his hat in the ring with all the other actors hoping to become 007.
