The Avengers are known as Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, and for good reason. Originally formed to tackle threats too big for any single hero, they continue to protect the world from all kinds of danger. The team is always changing, with members coming and going as they face new challenges. It’s often joked that almost anyone has been an Avenger, and that’s not far from the truth! The team has included incredibly powerful heroes like the Hulk, as well as skilled fighters who rely on their training and abilities, like Hawkeye.
The Avengers team is constantly changing, and while some lineups have been incredibly powerful, others haven’t quite lived up to the hype. The most recent team broke up in Avengers (2023) #36, and we’re still waiting to see who will be on the next iteration. Before that happens, let’s evaluate the seven members of the just-disbanded team and rank them based on their overall strength. Let’s take a closer look at Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and see if they truly deserve the title.
7) Captain America

Sam Wilson, like Steve Rogers, is a true Captain America, equipped with a durable shield and the ability to fly with wings. However, unlike Steve, Sam doesn’t have the Super Soldier Serum, meaning he’s still limited by human physical boundaries. While his connection with birds – and the falcon army it provides – is a significant advantage, Sam relies more on his willpower, courage, and strategic thinking than brute strength to overcome challenges.
6) Black Panther

T’Challa is both the king of Wakanda and a key member of the Avengers. Thanks to a special herb and the goddess Bast, he’s incredibly strong and fast – on par with super-soldiers like Captain America. He can move and react much quicker than any normal person, and is capable of feats of strength like lifting a five-ton rhinoceros. Plus, his vibranium suit protects him by absorbing impacts and redirecting energy, making him a formidable fighter.
5) Vision

Vision marks a turning point for the Avengers, elevating them to a whole new level of power. As a synthetic being, he’s far more durable than any ordinary human. He can even dramatically increase his weight to around ninety tons, essentially becoming a flying force of destruction. His strength is also considerable, allowing him to lift approximately fifty tons. While Vision’s combination of power and resilience makes him a formidable opponent, the other Avengers are still capable of delivering slightly more powerful attacks.
4) Iron Man

While Tony Stark doesn’t have any superpowers himself, his Iron Man armor makes him more than a match for his teammates. He has a suit for every challenge, including specialized versions capable of withstanding attacks from incredibly powerful beings like the Hulk and even Celestials, though not indefinitely. Even in his standard armor, Iron Man is incredibly strong – able to lift around 100 tons and deliver punches powerful enough to knock out She-Hulk or stun the Sentry. Iron Man demonstrates that intelligence can not only overcome brute strength, but actually create it.
3) Captain Marvel

Carol consistently steps up as a leader, and her willpower often saves the heroes when their powers aren’t enough. She’s incredibly powerful too – easily one of the strongest beings around. Normally, she can lift over a hundred tons, putting her on par with powerhouses like Hulk and Thor, though not quite as strong. What really sets her apart is her ability to absorb almost limitless energy. When fully charged, she can unleash explosions with the force of a nuclear bomb, capable of destroying even huge spaceships. She’s also shown incredible bursts of strength, like the time she knocked out the Sentry when her powers were amplified.
2) Storm

Storm recently became a member of the Avengers, and has become known as Earth’s Mightiest Mutant. Although she isn’t physically strong, she has incredible control over the weather – so much so that Thor, the God of Thunder, considers their powers to be on the same level. Her recent solo comic series have focused on showing just how powerful she truly is, even demonstrating the ability to fight cosmic beings like the Elder Gods. Most notably, she actually managed to injure Eternity with a powerful attack – a feat accomplished by very few, and survived by even fewer.
1) Scarlet Witch

Scarlet Witch is undoubtedly the most powerful member of this Avengers team, and arguably the strongest Avenger ever. She wields Chaos Magic, giving her the ability to alter reality itself. Having absorbed the Darkhold – a source of immense and dangerous magic – she’s become even more formidable. Recently becoming Sorcerer Supreme has further amplified her powers, granting her access to magic strong enough to threaten entire worlds. Wanda is a multiversal threat capable of reshaping reality at will, making her an unstoppable force and the most powerful hero on this Avengers roster.
