Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’s Cancelled Remake’s Early Cutscene Leaked – Rumor

As a huge Knights of the Old Republic fan, I’ve been following the remake news closely. It’s cool that Saber Interactive and Mad Head Games are now working on it, but details about the original version Aspyr was developing have been trickling out. Recently, Mp1st spotted a really early cinematic – it was super rough, with basically no textures on anything! It showed Captain Carth Onasi and Trask Ulgo, who you meet right at the beginning of the game on the Endar Spire, during the tutorial. It’s fascinating to see how things were shaping up before the project changed hands.

Even the early, simple cutscenes included details like stage directions, describing what was happening – for example, showing the player and Carth after a battle. These scenes also contain some of the first voice acting, and surprisingly, suggest that the player character, who was never voiced in the final game, was originally planned to have full voice lines.

Earlier leaks, including screenshots, suggested that the team working on the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake didn’t make much progress on the full game before it was cancelled. We also saw a preview in September 2025 of how they planned to recreate the planet Kashyyyk.

Tim Willits, creative chief at Saber Interactive, has confirmed that the remake of the classic RPG is still being worked on. However, he wasn’t able to share any updates on its progress, stating in March, “Yes, it is still in development. That’s all I can say.”

As a big Star Wars fan, I was starting to worry about the Knights of the Old Republic remake! It’s been quiet since we heard about the switch from Aspyr back in 2022, but the studio CEO, Matthew Karch, just confirmed that the project is still happening and things are going well. That’s a huge relief!

He confirmed in 2024 that they are actively developing the project, noting it has been widely reported. He assured everyone that the game is progressing well and the team is committed to delivering a product that surpasses what players expect.

Man, I first played Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic way back in 2003 on my PC, and it’s still one of the best RPGs BioWare has ever made, in my opinion. You start as a regular soldier for the Republic, but you quickly get thrown into this huge war against the Sith Empire and this seriously powerful dude, Darth Malak. Then things get crazy – you discover you’re Force-sensitive, and you basically set out to become a Jedi (or a Sith, depending on the choices you make!). It’s all about your journey and whether you lean towards the Light Side or the Dark Side.

The game received high praise for its grand story, which expertly expanded upon the existing Star Wars universe. It’s also fondly remembered for a shocking plot twist that was considered one of the biggest surprises in gaming when it was released. Currently, Arcanaut Studios is developing a new RPG that aims to capture the spirit of this beloved title, called Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic.
