Batman is known by many names – the Dark Knight, World’s Greatest Detective, and the Defender of Gotham. While some video games, like Rocksteady’s Arkham series (which itself drew from A Serious House on a Serious Earth), have captured parts of what makes Batman special, very few have tried to include everything about the character in one game. That’s the goal of LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, TT Games’ newest and most ambitious LEGO title. This game aims to go beyond the usual lighthearted LEGO style to create a truly respectful and fitting tribute to the iconic hero.
Now available on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, and PC (with a Switch 2 version coming later), here are 15 essential things to know about the new Batman game, starting with…
Detective Mode
Batman is famous for his fighting skills and dedication, but he’s also a brilliant detective. In the new game, Legacy of the Dark Knight, you’ll use his investigative abilities to examine crime scenes, find clues, and solve puzzles, according to PlayStation.com. It’s good to see that the developers, TT Games, haven’t forgotten this important part of what makes Batman, Batman, though it remains to be seen if the detective work will be as detailed as in the Arkham games.
LEGO Building and Character Assistance in Puzzles
As Batman once said, it’s not who you are, but what you do that matters – and that idea is central to the new LEGO game. Everything, from the world around you to the characters themselves, is built from LEGO bricks. Previous LEGO games have cleverly used this, requiring you to break down and rebuild objects to move forward. From what we’ve seen, LEGO Legacy of the Dark Knight will continue this tradition. Batman won’t be working alone either; other characters will help him solve puzzles. For instance, in one mission, Commissioner Gordon uses a glue gun to secure some poles, allowing Batman to continue his progress.
Iconic Locations
You’ll be able to explore Gotham City and parts of Arkham Asylum. Beyond ACE Chemicals, which is central to the story, you’ll find many other famous places like Wayne Tower, the Botanical Gardens (where Poison Ivy might show up), Gotham Museum (which could host a memorable scene), Haly’s Circus, and the Iceberg Lounge (where Batman and Gordon will try to disguise themselves). Remember, there are four large islands to discover, and they’re much bigger than anything in the first LEGO Batman game.
Riddler Trophies and Cluemaster Puzzles

Honestly, I’m really excited about how much there is to do in Legacy of the Dark Knight. It’s not just about a huge map, it’s about actually having stuff to engage with. Take the Riddler Trophies, for example – I love hunting down those collectibles! And now there are even more puzzles, these new Cluemaster Puzzles where you have to figure things out from pictures, according to IGN. Knowing how long it took to finish all the Riddler stuff in the Arkham games, I’m bracing myself for a lot of playtime with these – but in a good way!
Missing Zoo Animals, SubWayne Restoration, and More
Okay, so beyond the main story and all those cool side missions – seriously, the ones with Catwoman and other heroes are long – you’ll be doing all sorts of random stuff in Gotham. I mean, who do you think people call when the zoo animals escape? Probably Superman, but naturally, Batman handles it. And get this, you’re also fixing up this thing called the SubWayne System, which is how you unlock fast travel around the city. They say it’s not just a silly nod to Bruce Wayne being rich, but… come on!
Catch the Train
The train system in the game isn’t just for show – it runs right through Gotham City! You can even ride on top of the trains to get around, which is a fun alternative to calling the Batmobile or gliding. If you’re not in a rush, though, enjoy the view and the city sounds while you wait for your next mission.
Rise of the Villains

Characters like the Joker and Harley Quinn will have their own story missions and a special ‘Mayhem Mode’ releasing in September, but they’re not the only villains you’ll face. We’ve also seen Bane, looking like he’s straight out of The Dark Knight Rises, and Poison Ivy, who battles with a massive two-headed plant creature. Mr. Freeze predictably shows up with a huge mech, and even Two-Face makes an appearance, though we don’t yet know what his fight will be like. This is probably just a glimpse of all the boss battles the game has to offer, and we’re excited to find out who else will be included.
Henchmen Types
Villains are only as good as their helpers! Like the Arkham games, enemies come in many forms – from basic grunts to those with weapons or shields. Tougher Brutes also join the fight, using powerful area attacks. This variety keeps the combat engaging, similar to Arkham, and gives you plenty of options for taking down enemies with your gadgets.
Time Trial Races
An open-world Batman game needs exciting vehicle sections, and with so many iconic Batmobiles, racing is a natural fit. Recent early gameplay footage showed off ‘Time Trials,’ where players race through gates. Completing a trial quickly earns rewards – gold medals get you 5,000 studs, silver earns 3,000, and bronze gets 1,000.
Three Difficulty Options
We previously talked about Dark Knight mode, which makes the game harder by adding more enemies, stronger bosses, and fewer chances to continue. However, if that sounds too challenging, don’t worry! Recent previews have shown that there will also be Story and Normal difficulty options. Story mode will likely focus on the narrative, while Normal will provide a balanced level of challenge.
PC Requirements

Initially, the system requirements for Legacy of the Dark Knight appeared manageable, with 32 GB of RAM being the highest recommendation. Now, TT Games has released the complete requirements, detailing how different settings affect performance. For example, to play at Low settings with 1080p resolution and 30 frames per second, you’ll need at least a Core i5-10600K or Ryzen 5 1600 processor, 16 GB of RAM, and a GTX 960 (4 GB), RX 6400 (4 GB), or Arc A580 (8 GB) graphics card. If you want to play at Medium settings with 1440p resolution and 60 FPS, you’ll need a Core i7-12700 or Ryzen 7 5800X processor, along with an RTX 2070 SUPER (8 GB), RX 6650 XT (8 GB), or Arc B580 (12 GB) graphics card, and the same 16 GB of RAM.
Running the game at 4K resolution (2160p) with a smooth 60 frames per second at the highest settings demands a powerful setup. You’ll need at least a Core i7-14700K or Ryzen 7 9700X processor, 24 GB of RAM, and a graphics card like the RTX 4070 (12 GB) or Radeon RX 9070 XT (16 GB). While 24 GB of RAM is a bit high, it’s not as much as the 32 GB some games require. No matter what hardware you choose, you’ll also need a solid-state drive with at least 50 GB of free space to install the game.
Upscalers and Frame Gen
Nvidia DLSS, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS are all available right away, along with Frame Generation. However, it’s important to know that the performance numbers and system requirements mentioned earlier rely on these upscaling technologies and Frame Generation being turned on. Performance without them is likely to be significantly lower, so it’s best not to dwell on that. Which leads us to our next point…
Denuvo DRM
Honestly, I’m not even shocked at this point, especially if it’s a Warner Bros. game. They’ve included Denuvo, that anti-piracy tech, and a lot of us are worried it’ll make the game run even worse on PC. I’m trying to stay optimistic, but I think I’ll wait to see how the PC version actually performs before I buy it, just to be safe.
No Online Co-op

You can still play with friends and family on the same couch, which is great because the characters are more detailed than in most LEGO games. However, there’s no option to play with others online. This is a bit disappointing, but it’s typical for games made by TT Games in the LEGO series.
Deluxe Edition Content
While Mayhem Mode isn’t available right away, owners of the Deluxe Edition will have plenty to enjoy from the start, including three days of early access. They’ll instantly unlock 28 unique outfits for all characters, with styles inspired by classics like the Arkham Trilogy and Batman Beyond, as well as some fun, party-themed looks. Players can also customize the Batcave with 20 different items, including the popular Bat Armor from Batman Beyond. Plus, there are four different Batmobiles to drive, even a Bat Monster Truck! And for even more content, the Sinister Pack will launch alongside Mayhem Mode, adding seven more outfits, another Batmobile, and five additional Batcave decorations.
