New X-Men ’97 Season 2 Trailer Confirms Return of Missing Hero & 2 New Mutant Teams

Marvel Studios has been growing the Marvel Cinematic Universe beyond just movies, adding shows on Disney+. While some, like WandaVision and Loki, have been successful, others haven’t quite met fans’ high expectations. Interestingly, one series has received widespread praise and left fans wanting more, and it’s unique because it doesn’t connect to the main MCU storyline at all – it stands on its own.

The 2024 series X-Men ’97 began by seamlessly continuing the story of the original 1990s cartoon, but quickly evolved into something unique. The show received overwhelmingly positive reactions, and anticipation for its second season is high. While a specific release date hasn’t been announced, a trailer was recently shown at Comic Con Revolution Ontario, offering a first glimpse of new characters and multiple X-Men teams that will be featured.

X-Men ’97 Season 2 Confirms New Characters and Teams

The trailer for X-Men ’97 Season 2 continues the story shortly after Season 1 ended. The core X-Men team is spread throughout time, and the powerful villain Apocalypse poses a threat at both the beginning and end of the timeline. While the trailer quickly introduces new characters that comic book fans will be thrilled to see animated in the show’s classic style – including Quentin Quire, also known as Kid Omega – it’s the returning characters that are generating the most buzz.

A key character missing from the first season of the show has been confirmed to return: Colossus will be in X-Men ’97 Season 2. The new season will also feature time-scattered X-Men, leading Bishop to assemble other teams from X-Men history to fix things. The trailer showed both X-Force, with members like Cable and Archangel, and X-Factor, featuring characters such as Wolfsbane, Multiple Man, and Strong Guy, joining the fight.

The trailer for X-Men ’97 was first shown at Comic Con Revolution Ontario, but it quickly found its way online. This meant fans who weren’t at the event were able to watch it, and they immediately began sharing their reactions to what they saw.

“This is going to be another peak season of television,” one user wrote on X.

One viewer pointed out the noticeable absence of Cyclops taking charge, noting that other characters consistently lead the teams in the footage. However, it’s worth mentioning that Cyclops is still present in the video overall.

Okay, so the new trailer for X-Men ’97 didn’t give us a specific date, which is a little frustrating. However, everything seems to still be on schedule for a 2024 release. Considering Marvel has VisionQuest coming this fall and Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 isn’t until late 2026, I’m cautiously optimistic we might see the X-Men back on our screens this summer. Fingers crossed!
