Scrubs Season 2’s Release Officially Avoids a Big Streaming Problem (but Another Still Needs Fixing)

As a huge Scrubs fan, I’m thrilled to hear Season 2 (or Season 11, if you’re counting the original run!) is happening. The revival on ABC and Hulu was a real win – critics loved it, giving it an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes (even better than the original series, aside from Season 9!), and it brought in great ratings. So, it makes total sense they’re renewing it! I’m excited to see where they take the show now that they’ve had a season to really find their footing and build on what works.

Fans are eagerly anticipating the return of Scrubs after the Season 1 finale, which saw the Janitor continuing to playfully harass J.D. and revealed Dr. Cox will be back at Sacred Heart – this time as a patient. The best news? Season 2 is coming this fall on both ABC and Hulu! Originally, there were concerns the wait might be a year or more, but it looks like we’ll only have a few months between seasons.

Scrubs’ 2026 Return Is Great, But It Still Needs Another Change

Fans will be happy to hear that Scrubs is scheduled to return in late 2026. Long breaks between seasons are common for streaming shows, and because this revival is airing both on a streaming service and a traditional network, many expected an even longer wait – possibly until 2027. The fall return is great news because it will allow the show to quickly build on the success of its first season and provide the consistent schedule that made the original series so popular.

To avoid the delays that affected the first season, filming needs to start quickly. We already knew John C. McGinley would be back as Dr. Cox, and now it looks like Judy Reyes will also have more time to appear as Carla. Her other show, High Potential, won’t be back until mid-2027, which frees up her schedule.

While it’s great that Scrubs is coming back, the new season will only have 10 episodes – one more than season one. This fits how most network shows are released now, and it’s geared towards streaming. Though, fans might have preferred a slightly longer season, even if it didn’t go back to the traditional 22 episodes of the past.

While the revival was good, the new characters weren’t fully developed, and it would have been nice to see more of the returning characters too. Balancing standalone episodes with the bigger story could have been better. There’s a chance the show might get renewed, but for now, it’s a bit frustrating that this season is short. That’s the only real downside.
