PlayStation Plus Essential Price Increase Starts on May 20th for New Subscribers

Shortly after increasing the price of the PS5 and PS5 Pro, Sony has announced a price increase for PlayStation Plus Essential. Starting May 20th, the monthly subscription will cost $10.99 (previously $9.99), €9.99 (previously €8.99), or £7.99 (previously £6.99). A three-month subscription will now be $27.99 (previously $24.99), €27.99 (previously €24.99), or £21.99 (previously £19.99).

This special offer is only for new subscribers, excluding those located in India and Turkey. If your subscription is interrupted or you upgrade, you’ll be charged the new, higher price. Offering this deal only to new subscribers is a rather unusual approach for retaining existing customers.

PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium plans are staying the same for now, but Sony is likely considering changes. It’s worth noting that Xbox recently raised Game Pass prices for all levels, then lowered them for the Ultimate and PC plans. However, future Call of Duty games won’t be included in those tiers, so that’s something to keep in mind.

The recent price increase for PlayStation Plus Essential is likely because it’s the most popular subscription level, and Sony wants to benefit from its success without making the price jump seem too drastic. Keep an eye out for possible changes to the other subscription tiers in the next few months.
