DC Universe’s Lanterns TV show reveals Ozark star in dramatic new first look trailer

Laura Linney, known for her role in Ozark, has joined the cast of the new HBO series, Lanterns, just as a preview trailer has been released.

The upcoming show, premiering on Monday, August 17th, features Naomi Watts, Kyle Chandler, and Aaron Pierre as the main characters. It’s inspired by the Green Lantern comic books.

Lanterns centers on John Stewart, a rookie space cop played by Aaron Pierre, and Hal Jordan, a seasoned Lantern veteran portrayed by Kyle Chandler. Together, they team up to solve a murder with roots on Earth, leading them into a shadowy mystery in the American Midwest.

A new trailer released today gives fans their first glimpse of the three lead actors in action. The almost two-minute trailer opens with Hal Jordan giving John Stewart a Green Lantern ring, saying, “This ring. It’s the greatest weapon in the universe.”

Okay, so here’s the deal: this video is hosted on YouTube. Before it plays, they need my okay because YouTube, like most sites, uses cookies and stuff to track things. If I click ‘Accept and continue,’ the video will load and everything will work as it should. Basically, it’s just a heads-up about their data practices before I enjoy the show!

The film then shows Hal Jordan using the ring’s powers, demonstrating his ability to fight, defend himself, teleport, and even create fake money.

The trailer showcases the impressive cast and hints at a thrilling story centered around the long-standing rivalry between Hal Jordan and John Stewart, who is determined to obtain a power ring.

The trailer ends with John Stewart’s character telling Laura Linney’s character, whose name hasn’t been revealed yet, “I was raised to be fearless, and I’ll do this better than he ever could.”

She responds with a dismissive, “Then go and get it, John Stewart,” and the trailer concludes with a final image: John Stewart now wearing a Green Lantern ring.

Laura Linney is also well-known for her role in The Big C, in addition to Ozark. Kyle Chandler is famous for playing Eric Taylor in Friday Night Lights, and Aaron Pierre is recognized from his role as Terry Richmond in the Netflix series Rebel Ridge.

I’m so excited about the cast they’re building! We’ve got Kelly Macdonald, who I remember being amazing in Trainspotting, and she’ll be joined by a fantastic group of actors including Garret Dillahunt, Poorna Jagannathan, Laura Linney, Jason Ritter, Ulrich Thomsen, Nathan Fillion, J Alphonse Nicholson, and Jasmine Cephas Jones. It’s a really impressive lineup!

Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King all wrote the pilot episode of The Lanterns and are also the series’ co-creators. Mundy is also overseeing the show as showrunner.

You can start watching Lanterns on HBO Max beginning August 17th. Subscriptions are available from just £5.99 per month.
