Tom Kane, Legendary Star Wars and Powerpuff Girls Voice Actor, Dies at 64

Legendary voice actor Tom Kane has died. He was 64 years old.

Tom Kane was famous for providing the voice of Yoda in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Professor Utonium in both Powerpuff Girls TV shows. His passing was announced on social media by his agency, Galactic Productions, who stated:

We’re deeply saddened to say goodbye to Tom Kane, a truly remarkable voice actor. He touched the lives of millions with his iconic work, from memorable characters in Star Wars to numerous animated shows, documentaries, and video games. Tom brought a unique blend of wisdom, strength, humor, and emotion to every performance, and his voice will forever be a part of our memories and the stories we love.

Beyond his impressive career, Tom was a remarkable person. He was a loving husband and father who, with his wife, created a large and caring family of nine children—three of their own and six others they welcomed through adoption and fostering. His kindness and generosity were just as central to who he was as his exceptional abilities.

It’s hard to accept that Tom Kane is gone. His voice was truly iconic, and while we won’t hear it again, the incredible characters he brought to life and the joy he gave us through his storytelling will never be forgotten. He left a lasting impact, and as a fan, I just want to say thank you for everything. And, fittingly, may the Force be with him, always.

Everyone knows I love Yoda and Professor Utonium – those are the roles Michael Kane is most famous for, of course! But honestly, digging into his full filmography, it’s amazing how much he’s done beyond Star Wars: The Clone Wars and The Powerpuff Girls. Just within the Star Wars universe, he wasn’t just Yoda! He also gave voice to Admiral Yularen in The Clone Wars, and believe it or not, he was the show’s narrator too – a really booming, energetic voice. And it doesn’t stop there! He voiced Yoda in Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars mini-series, and even took on Qui-Gon Jinn in a bunch of Lego Star Wars animations. He was Admiral Ackbar in several Lego Star Wars video games, and even voiced Boba Fett in a few Star Wars games that weren’t Lego related! It’s a truly extensive body of work.

Beyond his work on Star Wars, he’s voiced many other memorable characters. He played both HIM and the Professor on The Powerpuff Girls, as well as Darwin in The Wild Thornberrys and Mr. Herriman in Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends. He also took over the role of Woodhouse on Archer after the original actor, George Coe, passed away in 2015.

Kane is known for many voice acting roles, including Magneto in Wolverine and the X-Men and Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds, Ultron in Next Avengers: Heroes of Tomorrow and The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Lord Monkey Fist in Kim Possible, and Oxnard Montalvo in The Angry Beavers.

Beyond his acting career, Kane was a very active voice actor in video games. He famously voiced beloved characters like Gandalf and Professor X, and contributed multiple roles to Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, playing characters such as Imperial Captain Ozzik Sturn, Lobot, and Kento Marek. He also lent his voice to Takeo Masaki in several Call of Duty titles, and voiced Lok in Fortnite: Save the World.

According to his social media, actor Tom Kane recently met up with the original voice actors of the Powerpuff Girls – Cathy Cavadini, Tara Strong, and E.G. Daily – at the Lexington Toy Comic & Toy Convention. Sadly, this event marked his last public appearance.
