For quite some time, CD Projekt RED has been a topic of conversation due to games like “The Witcher 4,” “Cyberpunk 2077,” and “Project Orion.” Yet, there’s not much information available about their next project called “Project Hadar.” This new intellectual property (confirmed as another role-playing game) was announced in 2022, but updates on it have been infrequent since then.
Previously this year, the developer announced multiple new roles for a specific title, suggesting an increase in production. A recent job posting for a Senior Gameplay Designer revealed that the project is still in its initial stages. Yet, one of the position’s requirements asks for a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a similar role, ideally within RPG/Action games focusing on melee-based combat.
If Project Hadar follows a similar trajectory, this wouldn’t come as a shock, considering the studio’s success with The Witcher series. Moreover, Nowakowski’s statement, “We specialize in certain types of games, and it’s reasonable to assume we’ll continue creating games within that genre,” hints that the game may fall under a similar genre. So, it’s not hard to guess the kind of game Project Hadar might be.
It’s worth considering whether any of the battle system developments made for The Witcher 4 might be transferable. We’ll have to wait and see, so keep an eye out for further news on this topic.
Regarding CD Projekt RED’s other games, The Witcher 4 doesn’t have a set release date yet, but it did showcase an impressive tech demo during the latest State of Unreal event. Meanwhile, Project Orion (often called Cyberpunk 2, though that may not be its final title) has moved into pre-production phase, although it might still be five to six years before we see its launch.
