In approximately a week, we’ll witness the comeback of “King of the Hill” for a fresh batch of episodes! The showrunner behind this revival has shed light on why some characters from the original cast have been replaced for this modern take. “King of the Hill,” which ended its initial run with Fox fifteen years ago, is making a return with a new series aimed at a younger audience. In this updated version, each character will be approximately a decade older than they were during the original series, and many members of the original cast are set to reprise their roles.
A key aspect of the revival of King of the Hill is that many members of the original voice cast are reprising their roles, but there have been updates to the cast to more accurately reflect some characters’ ethnicities. During the series’ panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 (as reported by Entertainment Weekly), showrunner Saladin K. Patterson discussed these changes, noting that the series has evolved in much the same way as our world has over time.
King of the Hill’s Showrunner on Adding New Cast Members
In the show, Patterson noted that things have shifted a bit since Hank and Peggy left, and the cast has adjusted accordingly to better fit the characters they’re portraying now. As revealed before the return of the series, several new actors have been cast, many of whom are of color, taking on roles that were previously played by white actors in the past.”
In this case, Ronnie Chieng is now voicing Kahn Souphanousaphone instead of Toby Huss for the updated version.
When it comes to recruiting Chieng for the latest season of King of the Hill, Patternson highlighted their good fortune in attracting numerous fans of the show, such as Ronnie Chieng, who had grown up watching it. Being a fan himself, he eagerly joined the team. Alongside Chieng, Kenneth Choi is stepping into the role of Ted Wassanasong, Ki Hong Lee takes over as Chane Wassanasong, and Tai Leclaire replaces the older actors as Joseph Gribble. As for any other impending changes, they remain undisclosed at this point in time.
What’s New for King of the Hill Season 14?
In Season 14, Keith David is set to join the show’s extended cast as the character Brian Robertson. While Hank and Peggy were away in Saudi Arabia, he was taking care of their house. As the story unfolds, Brian will be part of the crew when they return to Arlen. Additionally, Anthony “Citric” Campos is joining the cast as a new character named Emilio, who works alongside Bobby at his new restaurant in Dallas.
In a thrilling turn of events, the fourteenth season of “King of the Hill” is set to debut simultaneously on Hulu and Disney+’s Hulu platform starting August 4th. This new chapter promises to usher in an entirely fresh era for the beloved characters from the original series. All ten episodes from this new season will be made available at once, although Hulu has yet to confirm whether or not there are plans for a Season 15 as of now. With hints dropped by the cast about work on at least two seasons ahead, fans could be in store for a significant revival with this iconic show.
