Princess Diana’s Brother Charles Spencer Marries Cat Jarman

Charles Spencer has found his happiness.

Nearly three decades after the death of Princess Diana, her brother, Charles Spencer, married archaeologist Cat Jarman on May 15th.

Cat and Charles shared with People magazine that they feel incredibly fortunate their relationship has grown from working together, to a close friendship, and finally to a deep and loving connection. They said that laughter has been a constant throughout their relationship, and they both enjoy life to the fullest.

Charles and Cat first met in 2021 when Charles was asked to provide feedback on Cat’s nonfiction book, River Kings. Cat has a doctorate in archaeology from the University of Bristol, which she completed in 2017, and her area of expertise is Viking history. This is Charles’s fourth marriage.

Cat, 43, and Charles, 61, kept working together on archaeological projects. They also started co-hosting a podcast called The Rabbit Hole Detectives and officially became a couple in 2024.

The wedding took place in Sedona, Arizona, with the beautiful Cathedral Rock serving as the setting for their photos. It happened just months after the Earl had finished divorcing his third wife, Karen Spencer.

Cat celebrated by wearing a light blue, sleeveless dress with metallic heels. She styled her blonde hair in a braided crown and carried a bouquet of white roses. Beside her, Charles looked sharp in a dark suit and a blue button-down shirt, worn open at the collar.

After publicly confirming their relationship in 2024, Charles and his partner—together they have nine children, with Charles being a father to seven and his partner a mother to two—shared their thoughts on what makes their relationship strong.

Charles told the Daily Mail in November 2024 that Cat is unlike anyone he’s ever been with. He explained that he can be his true self with her, without any pretense. She understands him completely, both his strengths and weaknesses, and encourages him to be his best.

Cat, originally from Norway, found life with Charles at his large 13,000-acre estate, Althorp, to be quite different from what she was used to.

She explained that she grew up in a country very different from this one. Unlike here, they don’t have a traditional upper class, and even the Norwegian royal family isn’t particularly prominent. She feels like an ordinary person suddenly dropped into a very unusual environment.

She felt equally indifferent about using the title of “Countess,” which she now had the option to do.

She explained that she’s already earned significant recognition – a PhD and a professorship – and doesn’t see how a title like ‘countess’ would fit alongside those achievements. More importantly, she wouldn’t want to relinquish the accomplishments she’s worked so hard to attain.

Although Cat doesn’t often share details about her personal life with Charles online, she’s spoken about how much he’s helped her since her multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis in 2016.

Cat shared her personal experience with MS after participating in an event for the MS Society UK in May 2025.

She shared on Instagram that she feels fortunate to have been diagnosed when effective treatments were available, which can usually stop the disease from getting worse. However, she also emphasized that living with the illness is still very difficult.

She feels incredibly fortunate to have a strong support system, particularly her partner, Charles Spencer, who she says is wonderfully supportive.
