Russell T Davies’s much-anticipated new drama Tip Toe finally gets air date confirmed

Featuring Alan Cumming and David Morrissey as feuding neighbors, Tip Toe marks Russell T Davies’s return to Channel 4 after the acclaimed It’s A Sin (2021). It’s also his first new project since becoming showrunner for Doctor Who in 2023. The mini-series reunites Davies with It’s A Sin’s producer, Nicola Shindler, and director, Peter Hoar.

The five-episode series is now confirmed to premiere in May 2026. It will air on Channel 4 and also be available to stream on Channel 4’s on-demand service.

The first two episodes of Tip Toe will premiere on Channel 4 at 9pm on Sunday, May 31st, and Monday, June 1st. They will also be available to stream starting the night of May 31st.

The last three episodes will air on June 7th, 8th, and 9th at the usual time. They will also be available to stream starting on the evening of June 7th.

Currently, the specifics of the plot for Tip Toe are still under wraps. However, the story will focus on Leo, a bar owner in Manchester’s Canal Street, played by Alan Cumming, and a falling out with his neighbor, Clive (David Morrissey). They’ve been friendly neighbors for ten years, but a significant event will dramatically change their relationship.

Davies created this series to examine the recent increase in anti-LGBTQ+ language and how quickly people can develop extreme views on issues like homophobia and transphobia. Building on how It’s A Sin showed the impact of widespread homophobia on perceptions of the AIDS crisis, Tip Toe demonstrates that this prejudice hasn’t disappeared in 2026 – it’s simply changed its form.

Tip Toe tells the story of how quickly life can change. When tensions rise and disagreements escalate, two neighbors find themselves caught in a dangerous feud, turning their quiet suburban neighborhood into a frightening and unsettling place. The film makes you question what it truly means to feel safe.

This show features compelling characters and is filled with Russell T Davies’ signature cleverness and humor. It tells a timely story, highlighting the rise of prejudice in today’s world.

The new series, Tip Toe, is being praised as “astonishing” and also brings together writer Russell Davies with two familiar faces. Alan Cumming recently voiced a villain on Doctor Who, and Jessica Morrissey appeared with David Tennant in a 2008 Doctor Who Christmas special.

Early previews of the series show a dramatic confrontation between the characters played by Cumming and Morrissey in a hallway. The cast also features Pooky Quesnel (known for Moonflower Murders) as Marie, Clive’s wife, and Elizabeth Berrington (Frauds) as Stephanie, Leo’s close friend. Charlie Condou (Emmerdale) and Denise Welch (Waterloo Road) complete the main cast.

I’m already looking forward to more from Russell T Davies this year! Not only is his new show Tip Toe worth checking out, but he’s also writing the upcoming Doctor Who Christmas special. And let me tell you, that special has a lot to unpack. After Ncuti Gatwa’s Doctor did that shocking regeneration into a character played by Billie Piper – yes, the Rose Tyler! – fans are desperate for answers, and it sounds like Davies is going to deliver.
