Top 7 Wildest Anime Characters Who Appeared in Video Game Crossovers

Anime and video games have a long history of collaboration, with popular franchises like Dragon Ball, One Piece, and My Hero Academia consistently releasing new games. Recently, Yujiro Hanma, a powerful character from Baki The Grappler, was added to the Tekken 8 fighting game. With hints that “The Ogre” will also appear in Tekken 8, we decided to highlight seven of the most significant anime characters who’ve crossed over into video games beyond their own dedicated titles.

7.) Tekken 8 – Baki Hanma’s Yujiro Hanma

With the recent news, it’s fitting we highlight Yujiro Hanma, the main antagonist of the Baki The Grappler series. As Baki’s father, Yujiro has always been the ultimate challenge he needs to overcome to prove his power. Throughout the series, Yujiro demonstrates incredible strength, remaining completely uninjured by any opponent. While Baki finally defeated him in the recent “Father Son War Arc,” Yujiro is still joining the King of Iron Fist Tournament. We haven’t seen how Yujiro will appear in the game yet, but we expect the developers will accurately portray his intimidating presence and immense strength.

6.) Street Fighter 2 – JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s Polnareff

It might surprise some, but the Street Fighter character Guile, famous for his “Sonic Boom,” was inspired by a character from the unusual anime series JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure. Noritaka Funamizu, who produced Street Fighter 2, has said that Guile’s design was based on Polnareff, a hero first seen in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders. Polnareff reappeared later in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, famously stuck inside a turtle! Thankfully, Guile probably won’t suffer the same fate.

5.) Dead By Daylight – Tokyo Ghoul

It wasn’t shocking to see Dead By Daylight team up with another anime series, especially since they’ve already featured characters from Attack on Titan and Junji Ito’s work. However, the real surprise wasn’t that they collaborated with Tokyo Ghoul, but how they did it: Ken Kaneki isn’t a survivor, he’s a killer! In this multiplayer horror game, Kaneki, now “The Ghoul,” is driven by a hunger for human flesh and forced to hunt other players by the Entity. Turning a beloved protagonist into a villain for this crossover was a clever move and makes it a standout collaboration.

4.) Tekken 3 – Gon

While Yujiro Hanma is a recent addition to the Tekken series, he wasn’t the first anime character to join the fight. That honor goes to Gon, the small but mighty dinosaur, who originally appeared in a manga in 1991 and later got his own TV show in 2012. Considering all the unusual characters in fighting games, Gon’s appearance in the Bandai Namco franchise is particularly surprising. His inclusion demonstrates that the Tekken series is open to anime crossovers when a good opportunity arises.

3.) Call of Duty: Warzone – Attack on Titan

Although you can’t become a Titan yourself in this Call of Duty game, the inclusion of characters from Attack on Titan shows how popular anime has become. Players can now play as Captain Levi and the Armored Titan, two iconic characters created by Hajime Isayama. Attack on Titan has had its own games before, but seeing its influence in major titles like Call of Duty, Dead by Daylight, and Fortnite demonstrates the anime’s growing impact on the gaming world.

2.) Guily Gear Strive – Cyberpunk Edgerunners’ Lucy

The anime series Cyberpunk Edgerunners gave a big boost to its source material, the video game Cyberpunk 2077, becoming a huge hit on Netflix. Now, the popular world of Night City is expanding into the fighting game Guilty Gear Strive with the addition of the character Lucy. Though Lucy was known for hacking in the anime, the game developers creatively adapted her skills to make her a powerful fighter. She’s currently the only character from Edgerunners in Guilty Gear Strive, but fans are hoping more will be added soon.

1.) Fortnite – Too Many Anime Characters To Count

We saved the biggest anime collaboration for last! Fortnite, the popular battle royale game, has partnered with an incredible number of anime series. You can now play as characters from shows like Dragon Ball Z, Jujutsu Kaisen, Naruto, Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, Kaiju No. 8, Cowboy Bebop, Bleach, and Solo Leveling. While major franchises like One Piece and Kagurabachi haven’t joined yet, it feels inevitable that they will be added to the game soon.
