Nicolas Cage has confirmed he’s been in discussions with HBO about potentially appearing in the fifth season of True Detective, addressing recent speculation about his involvement.
This suspenseful series features a new story each season, focusing on different characters and a disturbing crime. While each season is self-contained, there are recurring themes and hidden clues that connect them all.
These films all share a common trait: they feature well-known actors. Some of the stars appearing in them include Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Colin Farrell, Rachel McAdams, Mahershala Ali, and Jodie Foster.
Nicolas Cage would be a good addition to the team, but he’s emphasized that he’s only potentially involved and doesn’t know what’s happening with the project right now.

Honestly, from what I understand, they’re still developing the project, but I haven’t gotten any updates recently. As far as I’m concerned, I’m not officially involved in anything right now – we’re just having initial conversations about it, that’s all.
The latest season of True Detective, titled Night Country, was directed by Issa López, marking a change from the series’ original creator, Nic Pizzolatto. This season achieved record-high viewership for the show (according to The Hollywood Reporter).
Sources say López will continue as showrunner for season five, and this is important to actor Nicolas Cage, who has expressed his strong respect for her work and eagerness to work with her.

“I’ve never seen the first season of True Detective, but I’ve heard great things,” the actor added.
Spider-Noir is Nicolas Cage’s biggest television role to date. For years, he’d strongly resisted working on TV, but his views started to change during the pandemic after his son got him hooked on the show Breaking Bad.
I had a specific idea of what Spider-Noir would be like, and I’m happy to say it turned out exactly as I’d envisioned, even better than I hoped,” he said with a smile.
You can watch Spider-Noir on Prime Video. All four seasons of True Detective are available on HBO Max and NOW.

I’m a big fan of David Craig’s work! He’s the Senior Drama Writer at TopMob, and always seems to be on top of everything happening in TV and streaming when it comes to scripted shows – both drama and comedy. Before that, he was writing for Starburst Magazine, and even hosted his own podcast, ‘The Winter King,’ for ITVX. He clearly has a knack for storytelling, and it’s no surprise he studied Journalism at the University of Sheffield.
