Disney and Pixar are expected to have a strong summer. Initial box office forecasts are out, and the upcoming sequel is predicted to be a huge hit, potentially breaking records when it’s released next month.
As a huge Toy Story fan, I’ve been counting down the days for a new movie! It’s been seven years since the last one – not counting Lightyear, which sadly didn’t do so well in theaters. Considering the first Toy Story came out 31 years ago, there are so many of us who grew up with these characters, and it looks like Toy Story 5 is going to have a huge opening weekend here in the US – and honestly, I couldn’t be more excited!

Early tracking suggests Toy Story 5 could open with $150 million, which would be the biggest opening weekend in the series’ history. Toy Story 4 debuted with $120.9 million in 2019. If the current projections are accurate, Toy Story 5 will also have the largest opening weekend of 2026 so far, surpassing the $131.7 million earned by The Super Mario Bros. Movie earlier in the year.
I was looking at the early projections for Toy Story 4, and it’s interesting – the initial numbers were actually a bit higher than the film ultimately opened with. Still, anything over $120 million would be a fantastic result for Disney and Pixar, and definitely something to celebrate.
Toy Story 5, which is , will arrive in theaters on June 19.
