5 Marvel Heroes Who Should Have Sidekicks

Since Robin first appeared in 1940, sidekicks have been a key part of superhero stories. Superheroes often take on young partners to teach them how to protect the world, helping them manage their powers and emotions. These sidekicks, like the many Robins and Falcon, have significantly impacted the superhero world for decades. Many go on to become famous heroes in their own right, sometimes even becoming more popular than the heroes they originally assisted. This remains an effective way to introduce new heroes and integrate them into existing storylines.

Sidekicks have been crucial to the growth of the superhero world, but Marvel seems hesitant to embrace them. Few Marvel heroes actually have long-term partners-in-crimefighting. However, I think many heroes could become even better if they took on apprentices. Today, I’m going to share five heroes who I believe would especially benefit from training a sidekick. They all have amazing skills and knowledge to pass on, and teaching could help them reach their full potential. Let’s dive into some ideas for who those sidekicks could be!

5) Hulk

The Hulk seems to function best when he has someone to keep him grounded. We’ve seen this with both Rick Jones and now Charlie Tidwell. While both Rick and Charlie are currently pursuing their own paths, leaving the Hulk on his own, he clearly benefits from having a normal, less experienced person by his side. These companions provide a valuable contrast to the Hulk’s anger and Banner’s brilliant mind, offering a fresh perspective on the complexities of both sides of his personality. Ultimately, both Banner and the Hulk need that human connection, and a sidekick provides the innocence and empathy that make Hulk stories so compelling.

4) Black Panther

T’Challa often loses and regains his throne, and introducing a young hero he could train would be a great way to add depth to his story. This sidekick could be a talented Wakandan citizen or even someone being considered as his successor, offering a fresh perspective on the future of the throne. While Black Panther has a strong supporting cast, he often operates alone. Giving him a protégé would be a natural way to develop his character, as true leaders nurture the next generation. Mentoring a future Black Panther would showcase a different, more instructive side of T’Challa’s leadership.

3) Daredevil

Daredevil, similar to the Hulk, has taken on a protégé before – a hero named Blindspot. However, Blindspot faded into the background after parting ways with Daredevil, leaving the door open for Matt Murdock to train a new hero. While Matt is used to confronting his own inner demons, guiding someone else could showcase his kindness and abilities as a teacher. A sidekick could also push Daredevil to be better, much like Robin does for Batman, and inspire him to become a beacon of hope. As a fearless fighter and one of Marvel’s best, Daredevil passing on his skills would demonstrate that he’s not afraid of what’s to come.

2) Storm

Storm, a classic X-Men member, is now focused on solo missions to save the world, and taking on a protégé fits perfectly with this new direction. For most of her career, she’s operated as part of a team, so guiding a new hero would prove she can handle responsibility independently. It would also allow Storm to develop a unique supporting cast – someone distinctly hers, rather than connected to the X-Men – and showcase her natural leadership and teaching abilities. Seeing Storm mentor a young hero would demonstrate her growth into a leader and teacher, much like Professor X.

1) Scarlet Witch

Now that Wanda has become the Sorcerer Supreme, she’s ready to take on a student. She wants to demonstrate that her innovative approach to magic is just as effective as traditional methods, and teaching someone else is the perfect way to do that. Over the past few years, Wanda has become a strong leader, and taking on a student feels like a natural next step in her journey as Marvel’s leading magic user. She’s unique, and she wants to share her skills, making a sidekick a great way to pass them on.
