As a film and media buff, I just heard about this and it’s fascinating! BBC’s Question Time is doing a special episode on AI, and they’re going to simulate a panel discussion with historical figures – Mahatma Gandhi, Frida Kahlo, Che Guevara, and Emmeline Pankhurst. Basically, they’re using AI to create what these incredible people might say if they were debating issues today. It sounds like a really unique way to explore the possibilities – and maybe the potential pitfalls – of artificial intelligence. I’m definitely tuning in!
Tonight’s episode explores the potential benefits, dangers, and ethical dilemmas created by fast-moving technological advancements. You can watch it on BBC iPlayer starting at 9pm, and it will also air on BBC One at 10:45pm.
I’m really excited about how this show is starting – they’re kicking things off with something totally unique! Apparently, the first panel will be made up of historical figures, but with a twist – they’ve been brought to life using AI. It’s a fascinating way to explore the people who really made a difference in shaping the world we live in today.
The BBC explains that this simulated lineup is designed to show viewers just how realistic and convincing AI-generated images can be, and how easily they can make it hard to tell what’s real and what’s fake.
Fiona Bruce will host the special episode, featuring a panel of experts from both the political and technology worlds.

As a total cinema lover, I was really struck by what Bruce said tonight. He pointed out that AI could completely reshape our lives, and it got me thinking – are we actually prepared for that? Can we even keep it under control? It’s a little scary to consider how we’ll distinguish what’s genuine from what’s not anymore. Those are exactly the kinds of questions this special programme is diving into, and I’m hooked!
The discussion will feature Mo Gawdat, a former Google X executive and author, who is also in the new movie Chasing Utopia. He’s publicly stated that artificial intelligence could potentially threaten the future of humankind.
Darren Jones, the Prime Minister’s Chief Secretary, will also participate. He believes artificial intelligence can help the government improve efficiency and address longstanding productivity issues in public services, allowing them to respond to challenges more quickly.
Joining the discussion are Julia Lopez, who speaks for the opposition on science, innovation, and technology, and Laura Gilbert, a senior leader focusing on AI and innovation at the Tony Blair Institute.

Lopez has cautioned that the growing use of AI brings up important issues about who holds power online and the increasing influence of major technology companies. Meanwhile, Gilbert, a former advisor to both Conservative and Labour governments, is worried about how AI might affect jobs and the future of democracy.
Joining the team is Victor Riparbelli, who founded and leads Synthesia, a London-based company that uses AI to create videos for businesses globally. Founded nine years ago, Synthesia is now valued at $2 billion.
This program explores the impact of increasingly powerful AI on our understanding of humanity. It asks whether AI can deepen our insights into what it means to be human, or if it might actually lessen them, and considers if we can always rely on AI to act with our well-being in mind.
The BBC has said the use of AI in the programme is in line with its editorial guidelines.
Question Time: AI Special is available on BBC iPlayer from 9pm and on BBC One at 10:45pm.
