***The Four Seasons spoilers ahead***
The popular Netflix comedy, The Four Seasons, is back for a second season. The show centers on a group of friends who’ve gathered for weekend trips every few months for years. This season, they’re navigating life after the loss of one of their own, Nick.
At the end of the first story, Steve Carell’s character died in a car crash, leaving behind his partner, Ginny, as well as friends Kate, Jack, Danny, and Claude. His ex-wife, Anne, already had a difficult relationship with him after their divorce, and his unexpected death made things even more complicated for her.
Nick’s affair with a younger woman was a devastating blow to Anne. Though deeply hurt and angry, she also remembered the life they’d shared – a life with their daughter, Lila, and many happy years. These memories would sometimes ease her pain, but ultimately, the hurt always returned.
Even though Nick’s actions had turned her life upside down, Anne had built so much of who she was around him. Because of this, she struggles with figuring out who she is now in the second part of the story.
Now that her divorce is becoming official, Anne starts to wonder about her identity and what she wants her life to be. Feeling free for the first time in a while, she impulsively buys a Pilates machine and entertains a lot of different possibilities – like returning to education, starting her own company, or even becoming a donkey farmer.
To each their own.
Anne has a lot of possibilities open to her, which seems great at first. However, like having too many choices on a menu or endlessly browsing Netflix, it’s actually overwhelming rather than freeing.
Anne is feeling lost and unfulfilled, but things start to change when her husband’s new partner, Ginny, has a baby. Anne finds a surprising new direction in life by helping Ginny adjust to motherhood.
The Four Seasons is nothing if not unexpected.
Anne and Ginny have a surprisingly tender connection, but they both realize it can’t last forever. Ginny needs to become more independent, and Anne finally starts to focus on her own needs – a decision she makes by the end of the season.

So, after the gang and Claude’s family had a fantastic Christmas together in Italy, something really interesting happened. Everyone headed home, back to their normal routines, but Anne? She decided to stay! It felt like a huge moment for her, honestly – the real start of a brand new phase in her life. As a movie buff, I was totally hooked – it was a classic ‘character stepping into the unknown’ beat!
At the beginning of the summer, she’d lied to Mark Brett, a guy she’d briefly dated while at the Jersey Shore, telling him she’d moved to Europe and was deeply in love with an Italian man named Gianpero.
So, why not make that fantasy a reality?
Anne is unaware that her new neighbor is actually a man named Gianpero, and is, in fact, played by the famous British actor David Tennant, known for his role in Doctor Who.
The actor’s brief but wonderful appearance feels like a tease for another season! There are plenty of possibilities for what happens next with all the characters, but we’re especially eager to see what unfolds with this particular couple – they’re the ones we’re really rooting for.
