Jeff Bezos Reacts After Blue Origin Rocket Explodes on Launchpad

Jeff Bezos is keeping the public up to date.

Following an engine test on May 28th at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket experienced a failure and caught fire on the launch pad. The company’s founder has since commented on the incident.

In a statement posted to X shortly after the explosion, Jeff Bezos confirmed that everyone is safe. He stated that while it’s too soon to know what caused the incident, they’ve already begun investigating. Despite a difficult day, he expressed confidence that they will repair any damage and resume flights, emphasizing that the work is worthwhile.

The 320-foot rocket exploded in a huge burst of fire and smoke at 9 p.m. in Cape Canaveral, Florida, during a routine engine test. This test, called a ‘hot fire test,’ is done to ensure the rocket is working properly before launch.

Blue Origin’s New Glenn rocket was preparing to launch 48 satellites for Amazon’s internet service, but a recent test flight ended in an explosion. Videos show the rocket was likely destroyed and the launchpad sustained significant damage. The launch, originally planned for as early as next month, is now delayed.

Blue Origin called the incident “an anomaly” and announced on X that pieces of the exploded rocket could appear on beaches over the next few days or weeks.

The message also warned people not to touch or get close to any debris they might find, for their own safety.

Elon Musk, who leads SpaceX, Blue Origin’s rival, responded to the news of the explosion with a message of support on X, saying he hoped Blue Origin would bounce back quickly.

This unexpected event happened just three days after NASA gave Jeff Bezos’ company, Blue Origin, $188 million to send rovers to the moon. The delivery will use a robotic lunar lander, NASA announced on May 26th. The agency’s administrator spoke about the situation, highlighting NASA’s dedication to working with partners.

Space travel is incredibly challenging, and building rockets capable of carrying heavy loads is especially difficult,” Jared Isaacman posted on X. “We’re working with our partners to fully investigate this issue, understand how it affects our upcoming missions, and resume launching rockets as soon as possible.

New Glenn has experienced several technical issues. After a problem during its third flight in April, the rocket was grounded and the Federal Aviation Administration launched an investigation.

The rocket’s first stage successfully landed on a ship at sea, but the second part didn’t quite reach orbit.

Blue Origin’s CEO, Dave Limp, expressed optimism about the future of the New Glenn rocket, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that they would learn from the recent issue and improve as a result.

In February 2017, Jamie Lynn Spears’ daughter, Maddie Aldridge, then eight years old, was riding an ATV near their home in Louisiana when she crashed into a pond. She was underwater for several minutes before being rescued.

Jamie Lynn remembered thinking her daughter had died when she was pulled from the water and first responders took over. She shared this on the 2020 Maria Menounos Better Together podcast.

Although the extent of her injuries was initially unclear, Maddie regained consciousness and was able to speak again after two days. Within a few weeks, she had returned to her everyday life.

As a mom, I can honestly say there’s nothing more profound than the joy of being reunited with your child. I went through a really difficult time where I felt like I’d lost my daughter, and then, thankfully, I got her back. It’s a blessing I’ll never take for granted.

During filming of the 2025 action comedy Bride Hard, Rebel Wilson had a mishap on her last day of shooting. According to an interview with Access Hollywood in June 2025, she was accidentally hit in the face with a prop gun during a fight scene, resulting in a split nose. She had to leave the set immediately, jokingly wondering how unlucky she could be.

She described being terrified when she was seriously injured in 2023, explaining that she was covered in blood. An ambulance was called, and a plastic surgeon had to be brought in to repair the damage. Without the surgeon, she said she could have been permanently scarred, but thankfully, the stitches were so well done that you can’t even tell it happened now.

Let me tell you, accidents can happen anywhere, even in your own home! Just recently, Jimmy Fallon from The Tonight Show had a pretty scary experience. He tripped, and while trying to catch himself, his ring actually got caught and nearly pulled his finger off! It was a close call, and a good reminder to be careful, even when you’re just relaxing at home.

Doctors hospitalized him for ten days to try and save his finger after a severe injury, which he called a “ring avulsion,” and prevent amputation.

In June 2025, Zane Wach, a seasoned hiker and multi-sport athlete who competes in running, swimming, and triathlons, almost succumbed to altitude sickness while hiking Mount Whitney in California with his father, Ryan Wach.

The 14-year-old began having hallucinations, but he was aware they weren’t real, Ryan told SFGATE. He described seeing things that weren’t there, like snowmen and Kermit the Frog.

Ryan had to repeatedly stop his teenage son from walking off the cliff while they hiked back down the trail. The father explained that his son seemed to be experiencing a break from reality, and they still haven’t figured out why. Ryan believes it was likely a combination of factors, including tiredness, lack of sleep, dehydration, and lingering effects from altitude sickness.

It was heartbreaking. I witnessed my son, Zane, fall about 120 feet off a cliff – I just couldn’t reach him in time. We waited six long hours for Search & Rescue to arrive and airlift him to the hospital in Lone Pine. Thankfully, they stabilized him and got him transferred to a specialized pediatric trauma center in Las Vegas, where doctors put him into a medically induced coma. It was a terrifying time, but thankfully, he eventually started breathing on his own. It was a long road, but seeing him take those first breaths independently was the best moment of my life.

Ryan described his teenager’s recovery from a serious accident – including a head injury, broken finger and ankle, and fractured pelvis – as a long journey. He said, ‘We’re still going through it, but we expect him to survive and recover.’

As a huge fan of Jeremy Renner, I was absolutely devastated to hear what happened to him on New Year’s Day 2023. Apparently, he was being a total hero, using his snowplow to help get a family member’s truck unstuck near his Lake Tahoe home. He’d stepped out to talk to them, and somehow the snowplow started moving and pulled him under. It was horrific – he ended up with a staggering 38 broken bones! It’s incredible he’s still with us, and I’m sending him all my support.

In his 2025 memoir, My Next Breath, he described lying on the ice on New Year’s Day, his heartbeat slowing. He wrote that after about thirty minutes of manually breathing – a strenuous effort similar to doing ten to twenty push-ups every minute for half an hour – he simply grew tired and died, unbeknownst to his daughter, sisters, friends, or parents.

Despite suffering broken bones, significant blood loss, and the danger of dangerously low body temperature, he believed he had died. He recalled emergency medical technicians telling him his heart rate had dropped to just 18 beats per minute, a level they considered fatal.

In May 2025, TikTok creator Emilie Kiser and her husband, Brady, experienced every parent’s nightmare when their 3-year-old son, Trigg, accidentally fell into their pool at their home in Arizona.

On May 12th, Chandler Police responded to a home after a child was found unconscious in a backyard pool. Police and firefighters performed CPR at the scene before transporting the toddler, identified as Trigg, to Chandler Regional Hospital. Sadly, Trigg passed away six days later.

Emilie filed a lawsuit attempting to prevent Maricopa County from releasing details about his death. The lawsuit explained that Emilie is focused on caring for her two-month-old son, Theodore, and is struggling emotionally every day.

Dr. Cara Hodgson described a family vacation to Thailand as turning into “the worst 10 days” of her life after she received an electric shock from power lines in December 2023. She lost consciousness and was taken to the emergency room, then spent the next week and a half in and out of hospitals working to recover and save her life, as she shared in an Instagram post on New Year’s Day. She expressed immense gratitude to still be alive.

Despite the discomfort, the orthodontist discovered a newfound appreciation for life. Cara explained that the experience reminded her – and all of us – of how wonderful it is to simply be alive. Being able to breathe, eat, speak, and move are incredible gifts worth celebrating, especially when we get caught up in everyday worries.

In June 2025, Brazilian tourist Juliana Marins died while hiking on Mount Rinjani, an active volcano in Indonesia. She fell from a cliff, and despite a four-day search by a team of 48 rescuers, her body was only found after being hampered by bad weather, difficult terrain, and poor visibility, according to a statement from the Brazilian government. Fortunately, she did not fall into the volcano’s crater.

Juliana Marins has sadly passed away, her family announced on Instagram. The rescue team reached her location today, but she did not survive. The family expressed their deep gratitude for all the prayers, kind messages, and support they received.

In 2015, actress Tori Spelling, known for her role on Beverly Hills, 90210, accidentally burned her right arm on a hot grill while at an Easter brunch at Benihana. She needed skin grafts to heal, and later decided to take legal action against the restaurant.

She revealed on her 2024 podcast, 9021OMG (co-hosted with Jennie Garth), that she received a skin graft from her thigh to cover a severe burn on her arm. She jokingly said, ‘Not many people can say they’re wearing their thigh on their arm,’ but emphasized that it’s literally true – a thin layer of skin from her thigh now covers the affected area.

Comedian Tony Knight tragically died in June 2024 while at the Rock&Cars festival in France after being struck by falling tree branches. He was 54 years old and enjoying life, according to Joanne Allen, the sister of his partner, Hayley Wright. Allen described Knight as fit, healthy, happy, charismatic, funny, and full of potential.

He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Haley shared on Instagram that he was incredibly talented and could turn his hand to anything. She remembered him as a wonderful friend, a devoted dog owner, and, above all, the love of her life, saying things will never be the same without him.

A company celebration turned disastrous in January 2024. To begin the 25th anniversary events for Chicago-based software firm Vistex, CEO Sanjay Shah and president Vishwanath Raju Datla were hoisted in an iron cage intended to descend 20 feet onto a stage at a party in India, according to a company representative who spoke with The Times of India. However, two cables broke, causing both men to fall onto the concrete stage.

Sanjay, age 56, died at the hospital after the accident, according to reports. Vishwanath, 52, suffered a serious head injury and died several months afterward.

In 2022, Orlando Bloom revealed in an Instagram video with UNICEF that he broke his back after falling three stories. When he was 19, he and some friends were attempting to climb onto the roof of a building, but the drainpipe he was holding onto gave way. He was lucky to survive with just a fractured spine, as his spinal cord remained undamaged.

He explained that doctors initially told him, during his hospital stay, he might never walk again. This was the start of a difficult process of realizing how certain life patterns had contributed to a series of accidents, ultimately culminating in a broken back – a life-threatening injury.

After leaving the hospital wearing a back brace and struggling with both physical and emotional pain, he immediately started going out and partying—still wearing the brace, he told GQ in 2005. It took a couple of months for him to accept this new reality and commit to making the most of it.

He said the experience completely changed his perspective on life. “You don’t appreciate things until you almost lose them,” he explained. He used to be a reckless driver and motorcyclist, always pushing his limits, not for the thrill, but because he enjoyed living dangerously. “I’ve definitely calmed down now though,” he added.
