Xbox Games Showcase Won’t Feature Project Helix or Strategy Talk, Confirms Matt Booty

After Fable’s announcement that its release was delayed, Xbox released a new podcast featuring Matt Booty, their chief content officer. They discussed several topics, including hints about what to expect at their showcase on June 7th. Booty didn’t reveal much detail, though he did say Gears of War: E-Day is looking promising. He also confirmed that they won’t be showing off Project Helix, the next-generation Xbox console, at the event.

So, I heard from Booty that the focus is going to be all about the game developers and the games themselves. He basically said they won’t be openly discussing overall company strategy. He did hint that they’ll eventually clear up some confusion, and I’m guessing that’s about all the talk of them making games exclusive to certain platforms. It sounds like they’ll address that stuff eventually, but not right now.

Our main priority right now is showcasing the games we’re working on. We’re taking a careful, long-term approach to development, prioritizing quality over speed. As for Helix, there won’t be any updates about it during this presentation – we want to ensure everything is perfect before we share anything. For now, our complete focus is on the games themselves.

Given the current difficulties with memory chip production, it’s not surprising Xbox managed expectations beforehand. While we don’t know everything that will be announced, Halo: Campaign Evolved is a likely candidate, particularly with reports suggesting it will be released next month.

The next Call of Duty, officially Modern Warfare 4, is coming, and we got a preview of the popular DMZ mode. Beyond that, the showcase also featured upcoming games like Clockwork Revolution and State of Decay 3, among others.
