A highly-rated RPG from the last ten years is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. The Switch 2 already has a large number of excellent RPGs because it can play games from the original Switch. However, there aren’t many RPGs specifically designed for the new console yet, as it’s still less than a year old. Luckily, fans of role-playing games will have a new option to enjoy in just a few months.
This week, Square Enix announced a new version of Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age for the Nintendo Switch 2, called the Definitive Edition. The original Dragon Quest 11 S came out on Switch in 2019 and was highly praised, becoming one of the best RPGs and games in the Dragon Quest series available on the platform. This new Definitive Edition lets both longtime fans and new players experience the beloved game again.
The updated version of Dragon Quest 11 on the new Switch 2 features improvements over the original Switch version. Square Enix has enhanced both the graphics and how smoothly the game runs, creating a better experience for players. A new feature will allow players to choose between ‘Performance’ and ‘Fidelity’ modes, letting them prioritize either smooth gameplay or sharper visuals. The core game content remains unchanged from previous releases.
Unfortunately, Nintendo Switch owners of Dragon Quest 11 S won’t be able to simply pay to upgrade to the new version. Square Enix is treating it as a separate purchase, selling the game for $39.99. While this is frustrating for those who already own the game, it’s positive that Square Enix isn’t charging a high price for a game that originally came out nearly nine years ago.
The highly anticipated game, Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age – Definitive Edition, is launching on the Nintendo Switch 2 on September 24th. Pre-orders are available now if you’d like to secure your copy.
