The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is a hugely popular and successful game. First released in Japan in 1996 with its Base Set, it remains a beloved hobby for both children and longtime fans, even three decades later. The latest releases are part of the Mega Evolution Base Set, which launched on September 26, 2025, and has already been expanded with four additional sets, with more planned for the future.
This list highlights some of the most valuable chase cards from the Mega Evolution set and recent Pokémon TCG expansions. Because many of these cards are newly released, their prices might fluctuate, but they generally represent solid long-term investments, no matter what happens in the market.
Meowth ex (121/088) is the Best Card From Perfect Order
It’s a bit surprising that this set doesn’t have many highly valuable cards. Currently, only two cards are worth over $100, and the most valuable is the Meowth ex card (121/088). It’s selling for around $195, which is a good price, but it’s not as high as some of the valuable chase cards found in other Mega Evolution sets.
Since its release, the price of this card has gone up and down a bit, but generally, it’s become more valuable over the past few months. It was at its lowest point in March, around $140, right when the new expansion came out. Since then, it’s increased in value by nearly $60. This card is looking like a solid investment, and it’s affordable – you won’t need to spend a fortune to get one.
Mega Gardevoir ex (178/132) is a Stunning Mega Evolution Card
The Mega Gardevoir ex card (numbered 178/132) is from the Mega Evolution set and is currently worth about $200. Similar to the Meowth ex card, it’s a relatively affordable collectible – easier to get than cards that cost $800 to $1,000 or more (we’ll discuss those later). This card features a beautiful stained-glass design showing not only Mega Gardevoir, but all of its evolutionary stages.
This card, first released in September 2025, has generally increased in price since then. While it once sold for as low as $168 on TCGplayer.com, that’s not much less than its current price. It’s positive that the card has consistently gained value, instead of decreasing or staying the same.
Mega Lucario ex (179/132) Proves Lucario’s Continued Popularity
Mega Lucario ex (card number 179/132) is a highly sought-after card from the Mega Evolution set, and it’s no surprise it’s popular with Pokémon fans. As a powerful Fighting-type Pokémon, it’s often included in strong competitive decks, making it a favorite among both players and collectors.
The Mega Lucario ex card is currently selling for around $230 and has been consistently increasing in value since September 2025. Its popularity, combined with the stunning artwork depicting Mega Lucario battling Mega Venusaur, makes it a highly desirable addition to any collection.
Mega Greninja ex (122/086) is a New Card that Comes With Some Risk
This card is from the Chaos Rising expansion and is one of the very rare, all-gold Mega Hyper Rare cards. While some of these gold cards aren’t very exciting, this Mega Greninja ex stands out because of Greninja’s unique upside-down position and the detailed background. The card uses a lot of different gold shades, making it visually impressive.
Okay, so this Mega Hyper Rare card is going for about $322 right now. But things are kinda crazy because the newest expansion, Chaos Rising, just dropped on May 22nd, 2026. That means prices on all the cards from that set are all over the place and are bound to change a lot in the next few weeks. As of now, only two cards have broken the $100 mark, and both of them are Greninja ex cards. It’s gonna be interesting to see how things settle!
Mega Greninja ex (116/086) is the Only Other Chaos Rising Card to Make This List
So far, only two cards from the Chaos Rising set have become quite valuable, reaching over $100 each, and both feature Mega Greninja ex. This particular Mega Greninja ex card (116/086) is a Super Rare with eye-catching artwork that really makes the Pokémon seem dynamic. It’s similar in appeal to the Greninja ex from Twilight Masquerade (214/167), and continues a trend of popular Greninja cards that collectors enjoy.
Right now, the special ‘SIR’ version of Mega Greninja ex is selling for around $395, which is more than the regular, super-rare version. However, because this card just came out, its price could change a lot as more people get their hands on it and more copies become available for sale.
Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex (281/217) is a No-Brainer Chase Card
The Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex card (numbered 281/217) is a highly sought-after card from the Pokémon Trading Card Game’s Ascended Heroes expansion, which came out on January 30, 2026. This set includes many valuable cards featuring Mega Evolution, and Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex is a prime example. The card depicts Giovanni, the leader of Team Rocket, with a powerful Mewtwo looming above him.
As a collector, this card really brings back memories! It reminds me of the classic Team Rocket days, and honestly, with how popular Team Rocket always is, it makes total sense that this Mewtwo ex has gone up in value. Right now, you’re looking at around $453 for it. It’s dipped a little recently, but it’s still holding a really strong price, and I think it’s definitely a card worth having in your collection!
Mega Dragonite ex (290/217) is Where Things Start Getting Really Pricey
As a collector, I’m really excited about the Mega Dragonite ex card (290/217)! It showcases Mega Dragonite and all its evolutions in these really cute pastel colors. It’s definitely a pricey one though – right now, it’s going for around $830! It’s one of several super-rare cards in the Ascended Heroes set that are worth over $800, making it a real chase card for collectors like me.
Okay, so I’ve been keeping an eye on the Mega Dragonite ex card, and like a lot of others, it’s been steadily going up in value. Just back in early March, you could snag it for under $600, but now it’s worth over $800! Because it’s been climbing like this, I think it’s a really good card to invest in right now.
Pikachu ex (276/217) Proves Pikachu is Always a Fan Favorite
Pikachu is instantly recognizable and beloved by everyone. The Pikachu ex card (276/217) from the Ascended Heroes set beautifully captures this, showing a lost Pikachu wandering through a sun-dappled forest.
The Pikachu ex card is currently selling for around $852, but prices on TCGplayer.com are significantly higher, with the lowest price currently at $1,200. Its value has increased recently, and the current market price seems to be underestimating what the card is actually worth.
Mega Charizard X ex (125/094) is a Popular Modern Charizard Chase
Charizard is as iconic and popular as Pikachu. It’s always been a highly sought-after Pokémon, and new versions consistently become fan favorites. The Mega Charizard X ex card (numbered 125/094) from the Phantasmal Flames expansion, released on November 14, 2025, is a prime example – it’s part of the first set to feature Mega Evolution Pokémon.
The Mega Charizard X card features the entire Charizard evolution line, with a large and imposing Mega Charizard set against a dramatic, stormy backdrop. Currently, it’s selling for around $858. While the price has fluctuated slightly, it’s consistently remained above $800, making it a valuable and popular card among collectors.
Mega Gengar ex (284/217) Crashing Through the $1,000 Barrier
The Mega Gengar ex card (numbered 284/217) from the Ascended Heroes set is considered one of the most valuable cards from the Mega Evolution series. It’s currently selling for around $1,380, a significant jump in price compared to other similar cards.
The Mega Gengar ex card stands out because it showcases only the final, evolved form, skipping the earlier stages of Pokémon evolution. It’s designed to look truly spooky, using bright colors and a powerful, intimidating pose. While its price has fluctuated, it consistently remains valuable, typically selling for over $1,000.
