Marvel started building excitement for Avengers: Doomsday a year ago by showing short previews before screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. Fans have been waiting for more ever since the last preview in January. A longer trailer was shown at CinemaCon in April, featuring a fight between Thor and Doctor Doom, but it hasn’t been released to the public yet. Now, with summer blockbusters in full swing, many believe the official trailer will arrive soon.
Filmmakers Joe and Anthony Russo shared a photo on Instagram hinting at a potential Marvel promotion at SXSW London. The image featured the logo for the festival with a background pattern matching the flag of Latveria, Doctor Doom’s fictional country. They also tagged the official accounts for Avengers, Marvel Studios, and Robert Downey Jr., leading fans to believe a trailer for the upcoming film Doomsday might be revealed at the event, which runs from June 1st to 6th. Fans on platforms like X are buzzing with speculation. You can see the original post and reactions below.
Will The Avengers: Doomsday Trailer Release Next Week?
A special showing of Avengers: Infinity War will take place at SXSW London on June 2nd. If any news about the next Avengers film, currently known as Doomsday, is revealed at the festival, it’s likely to happen after this screening. It’s possible the directors, the Russos, will share a sneak peek of Doomsday with those attending, maybe even showing the same trailer that was popular at CinemaCon.
Even if the trailer is shown at SXSW London, there’s no certainty it will be released online right away. Fans expected it to appear after CinemaCon, but it hasn’t happened yet. Releasing the trailer in early June would be a strange move for Disney, especially since they could have paired it with The Mandalorian and Grogu over Memorial Day weekend to potentially increase ticket sales. While the trailer could be shown with other popular movies later this summer, Disney usually prioritizes promoting its own films together.
Marvel Studios is expected to have a major presentation at San Diego Comic-Con this year, and the upcoming Doomsday movie will likely be the main focus. Comic-Con is the perfect place to release a trailer and build excitement. It’s unusual for a big movie to release two trailers so close together – typically, there’s more time between them. For example, the first teaser for Avengers: Endgame came out in December 2018, and the next one wasn’t released until March 2019. Even The Mandalorian and Grogu had months between trailer releases. Studios usually give a trailer plenty of time to generate buzz before sharing more promotional content.
The trailer for Doomsday might not be officially released until July, which will likely disappoint eager fans. However, this makes sense from a marketing perspective. With Comic-Con happening about five months before the movie comes out, Disney and Marvel have ample time to launch a full marketing campaign. Since most people already know the film is coming, the studio can afford to wait before releasing the trailer. We might see something new after SXSW London, so it will be interesting to follow what happens at the festival.
